A stable and reputable Australian-owned international freight forwarder is seeking an experienced Customs Classifier / Customs Compiler to join our Customs team at our Silverwater Head Office.
This is an excellent opportunity for someone with experience in customs, freight forwarding, import operations, or international logistics who enjoys working in a detail-oriented, compliance-focused environment.
About the Role
This is an excellent opportunity to develop your career in customs and international logistics. As a Customs Classifier, you will prepare import declarations for air and sea freight, determine tariff classifications, and work closely with Licensed Customs Brokers to ensure cargo is cleared accurately, efficiently, and in full compliance with Australian Border Force and biosecurity requirements.
Key Responsibilities
- Prepare and pre-lodge import declarations.
- Review commercial invoices, packing lists, technical specifications, and supporting documentation to determine the correct tariff classification.
- Liaise with customers, overseas agents, freight forwarders, importers, and internal teams to obtain clearance documents if missing, and product information and resolve classification enquiries.
- Maintain accurate records and supporting documentation for audit and compliance purposes.
- Assist with biosecurity clearance requirements
- Support Licensed Customs Brokers with customs-related activities and compliance.
- Monitor customs clearance status and assist in resolving clearance delays.
- Ensure compliance with Australian Border Force (ABF) requirements and other relevant government agencies.
Skills & Experience
- Previous experience in customs classification, customs brokerage, freight forwarding, import operations, or international trade will be highly regarded.
- Candidates who have completed, or are currently undertaking, the Diploma of Customs Brokerage will be highly regarded.
- Experience using CargoWise is advantageous but not essential.
- Strong organisational skills with the ability to prioritise workloads and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
- Strong attention to detail and excellent analytical skills.
- Excellent communication and customer service skills.
