Depot Hand - Workshop Support

Apple City Tours – Orange Depot

Hours: Monday to Friday, 8:30am to 5:00pm

Position: Full-time

Apple City Tours is seeking a reliable, practical and hands-on Depot Hand to join our Orange depot team.

This role will primarily support our mechanic with bus servicing, maintenance activities and the day-to-day movement of vehicles. The successful applicant will also run local errands and assist with the general upkeep, cleaning and presentation of the depot, workshop, grounds and bus fleet.

This position would suit someone with mechanical aptitude or a genuine interest in vehicle servicing who enjoys practical work and is willing to assist wherever required within a busy bus depot.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

Primary duties

- Assisting the mechanic with bus servicing, inspections, repairs and general maintenance under appropriate direction
- Preparing tools, equipment, parts and vehicles for scheduled workshop work
- Performing basic maintenance tasks within the employee’s skills, training and authorisation
- Moving, positioning and refuelling buses when appropriately licensed, trained and authorised
- Transporting buses to and from external repairers, inspection stations and service providers
- Running local errands, including collecting and delivering parts and supplies
- Keeping the workshop, tools, equipment and parts-storage areas clean, organised and safe
- Reporting vehicle faults, damage, hazards and maintenance concerns
- Completing basic workshop records as directed
- Undertaking contingency school-bus driving when appropriately licensed and authorised

Secondary duties:
- Washing and detailing buses




- Cleaning bus interiors as required
- Maintaining depot grounds, sheds and work areas
- Mowing and undertaking general yard maintenance
- Completing basic handyman-style jobs around the depot
- Assisting with general cleaning and depot presentation
- Following workplace health and safety procedures
- Wearing required PPE and complying with company safety instructions
- Completing other reasonable depot duties as required

ESSENTIAL REQUIREMENTS

- Current unrestricted NSW driver licence – Class C minimum
- Willingness and eligibility to obtain an MR licence if not already held
- Willingness and eligibility to obtain a NSW Bus Driver Authority for contingency school-bus driving
- Willingness and eligibility to obtain or maintain a Working With Children Check where required
- Mechanical aptitude or a genuine interest in vehicle servicing and maintenance
- Reliable, punctual and available to work Monday to Friday from 8:30 am to 5:00 pm
- Physically capable of performing workshop-support, vehicle-cleaning and general depot duties
- Able to follow instructions and work safely, both independently and as part of a team
- Good attention to detail and a practical approach to problem-solving
- Able to maintain qualified working relationships with workshop,



driving and administration staff
- Australian working rights

HIGHLY DESIRABLE

- Current MR or higher-class NSW driver licence
- Current NSW Bus Driver Authority
- Previous mechanical, automotive, heavy-vehicle or workshop experience
- Experience servicing or maintaining buses, trucks or other heavy vehicles
- Relevant automotive or mechanical qualifications
- Forklift licence
- Previous depot, transport, vehicle-detailing or property-maintenance experience
- Basic handyman and grounds-maintenance skills
- Knowledge of workplace health and safety requirements

Remuneration will be dependent on the successful applicant’s experience, qualifications and licences. Drug and Alcohol / Transport Safety Employee Requirements

This role is considered a Transport Safety Employee position. The successful applicant will be required to comply with Apple City Tours’ Drug and Alcohol Policy, fitness-for-work requirements and all workplace health and safety procedures.

This may include pre-employment, random, reasonable cause and post-incident drug and alcohol testing. Employees must not attend work or perform duties while affected by drugs or alcohol and must report any health, medication or other issue that may affect their fitness for work.
