We've spent nine years becoming the best agency you've never heard of. Consider this the last year that's true.Award-winning, and we never once chased it – built one good hire, one valuable project, one good decision at a time, while agencies twice our size ran on noise because they needed something to distract from the work.
We never needed cover. The work speaks. You don't need a launch party when it keeps getting invited back, and we're already the preferred creative partner to names you'd know on sight. We’ve just never told you. Until now.
Every big move we're about to make needs one thing first: someone who can lead at the level we're playing at. Not someone who fits into what we've built – someone who helps us wreck it and build it better.
You know the shape of what you're done with. The vision that's never quite yours. The credit that lands above your name. The ceiling, dressed up as a career path. We built this place so none of that would happen to us.
We want someone who'd rather build a reputation than inherit one. Whose name belongs on the work, not buried three approvals deep in someone else's. Good enough to have options. Picky enough to want this one.
Who we are
Boldly. Seven people. Brisbane-based, working nationally. Small room. Serious output. We don't measure ourselves against the biggest agencies in the country – we measure ourselves against the best work in it. Not the biggest name in the industry. Don't need to be. Nobody here pulls rank. The best idea wins, whoever brought it. That's not a value on a wall – just how the room runs.
The job
Design Director. Creative direction on the work that matters most, real authority in the room, and a genuine hand in shaping where this studio goes next.
- Set the vision on our biggest work and pitches – the moments that can't afford to miss
- Hold the standard – every piece of creative output answers to you before it answers to a client
- Be the trusted creative voice with clients – present the work,
hold the line when it's challenged
- Build the standard the whole studio scales against – systems, process, the benchmark
- Grow the people delivering it, not just direct them
- Stay hands-on where it counts – still designing, still connected to the craft
- Build the studio's reputation – portfolio, case studies, the awards that follow
- Real say in what we take on and what it's worth
Beyond the job as it stands, there's more on the table. A real say in how this agency itself gets built – the work we chase, the people we hire, how we run. And this is the closest thing to complete creative authority over client work this industry offers – not on day one, but something you build toward and earn outright. Right now, that sits with our founder. She doesn't need to hold onto the seat forever. She needs someone good enough, eventually, to make holding onto it pointless. Ego chases the seat. We're after someone chasing the work. Because the legacy that matters here was never going to be one name on one door. It's a team that's better because you led it.
Must-haves
- 10+ years agency experience, ideally at Art Director/Design Director level
- A portfolio that proves creative judgement, not just creative output
- Confidence presenting and defending work directly to clients
- Experience mentoring or leading other designers
What you get Paid like the work is worth it, not like the agency's small. Work where you're sharpest, not just where a desk is. A team that actually means it when they ask how you're doing. This is closer to family than hierarchy – and family backs you when it's hard, not just when it's easy.
The details
- Top of market for a boutique studio at this level
- Hybrid – based in Brisbane, minimum 3 days in studio
- Reporting to and sitting alongside the founder
Where this goes Whoever takes this seat stands at the front of what we build next. Vague? Messy? A unicorn role that reads better than it lives? Not for you. If you can already see the shape of this – that's the job. Apply now.
