We are seeking an experienced and compassionate Disability Support Worker to provide person-centred support to Lily, a participant with complex mental health and psychosocial support needs.
The successful candidate will be calm, emotionally regulated, reliable, and confident supporting participants during periods of emotional distress or heightened presentation.
Key Responsibilities
- Provide compassionate, trauma-informed and person-centred support.
- Support emotional regulation and use appropriate de-escalation strategies.
- Assist with community access, daily living skills, medication administration and household tasks.
- Monitor and respond appropriately to changes in mood, behaviour, physical health and risk.
- Provide reassurance while promoting independence, choice and dignity.
- Maintain professional boundaries while building a trusting and respectful relationship.
- Complete accurate documentation and detailed shift handovers.
- Work collaboratively with family members, allied health professionals and the broader support team.
- Work independently and respond appropriately to complex or changing situations.
About You
You will ideally have experience in:
- Psychosocial disability and mental health support
- Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD)
- PTSD and trauma-informed support
- Emotional dysregulation and de-escalation
- Suicide and self-harm risk management
- High-intensity or complex participant support
We are looking for someone who is patient, resilient, emotionally mature, non-judgemental and genuinely committed to providing safe and consistent support.
Essential
- Solid communication and documentation skills
- Ability to work independently and make sound decisions
- Strong understanding of participant choice, dignity, independence and human rights
- Availability for sleepover shifts
