Convenient locations plus new technology enables a seamless recycling experience both at fully staffed depots and Express collection points.
This role provides high-quality service to Return-It customers, supports the team with container sorting, and assists with depot maintenance as required . The position operates across two depots in the wider Melbourne area.
Reporting to the Area Manager, the Dual Depot Manager ensures both depots comply with safety and industry requirements and operate successfully through strong customer service, effective team leadership, efficient operations, and high OH&S; standards.
The role also acts as a brand ambassador for Return-It, building strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to support positive outcomes and ongoing growth.
You will be passionate about recycling, reusing, and repurposing, and will demonstrate this by working with depot staff to build a shared vision of a wasteless society.

Accountability
Safety
- Ensure the safety of employees and customers at both depots.
- Ensure all materials and machinery are handled and maintained safely and efficiently.
- Ensure machinery is maintained to the required safety standards.
- Escalate machinery maintenance issues as needed.
- Ensure staff receive appropriate induction and training.
- Ensure staff understand and comply with relevant WHS procedures and standard operating procedures (SOPs).
- Model and enforce the correct use of personal protective equipment (PPE).
- Maintain adequate PPE supplies at all times .
- Ensure incidents and hazards are reported promptly through Re.Group’s ‘Reassure’ safety system and recommend appropriate controls .
- Promote a strong safety culture.
- Ensure all workers in the functional area are appropriately licensed, trained, competent, fit, and able to perform their required duties.
- Mentor, coach, and support any Assistant Depot Manager working at either depot.
- Demonstrate accountability and actively reinforce a Safety-First culture.
- Mentor and coach both depot teams to meet their WHS obligations.
- Ensure familiarity with and compliance with Return-It Work Health and Safety policies and procedures.
- Report opportunities for improvement.
Depot Operations
- Monitor and maintain the security of both depots, including all plant and equipment.
- Maintain the integrity of cash handling and EFT processes.
- Manage rosters for both depots to ensure appropriate coverage , efficient customer service, and budget compliance.
- Ensure staff time and attendance records are managed accurately and on time.
- Deliver regular Toolbox Talks to both depot teams in line with the agreed schedule.
- Maintain both depots to agreed operational standards.
- Provide operational backup across all depot functions.
- Assist customers at the depot and respond to their questions promptly and professionally.
- Support the team, when needed, by counting redeemable containers and accurately calculating customer refunds.
- Help keep driveways and car parks orderly and free of broken glass, boxes, crates, and other debris that could put staff or customers at risk.
- Manually handle products weighing up to 15 kg.
- Work with fast-paced conveyors, where applicable.
- Package materials for storage and dispatch, including quality checks.
- Ensure housekeeping standards are maintained at both depots.
- Support audits of both depots, as required , in conjunction with the Area Manager.
- Complete end-of-day (EOD) processes as required by the business.
Leadership
- Provide comprehensive supporting with onboarding for new Team Members in conjunction with Assistant Depot Managers and/or Area Manager.
- Develop,
mentor and coach team members for continuous performance improvement.
- Apply relentless grit and accountability and proactively drive workflow improvements to maximise depot efficiencies.
Customer Service
- Ensure a customer-centric culture within the depot team.
- Management of customer complaints and recommend service improvements.
- Ensure integrity of customer transactions.
- Promote responsiveness to customer needs
QUALIFICATIONS & EXPERIENCE
Qualifications
- Current Senior First Aid certificate
- Valid Driver’s License
- Frontline Management Training/Certification (desirable)
- High Risk Work Licence (desirable but not essential)
- Valid Forklift (desirable but not essential)
Experience and Key Attributes
- Ability to work autonomously ‘as a leader’ and as a ‘leader of a team’ for two depots in the wider Melbourne area with regular travel between both sites required .
- Previous leadership experience in production or warehouse environment.
- English-speaking skills.
- Available to work a weekly roster and weekends.
