Amity Health is seeking a passionate and community-minded Food Action Development Officer to help communities across the Outstanding Southern and Southern Wheatbelt to improve access to healthy, affordable and locally available food.

Working as part of the Food Action Group Project, you will partner with Aboriginal community leaders, local residents, government agencies, food retailers and community organisations to strengthen local leadership, build community capacity and support locally driven solutions to food access challenges.

This role is ideal for someone who enjoys working alongside communities, building authentic relationships and supporting people to turn local ideas into practical action. Through collaboration and community development approaches, you’ll help strengthen existing initiatives and contribute to lasting community outcomes

About the Food Action Group Project

The Food Action Group Project is a three-year pilot initiative funded by Healthway through the WA State Government and delivered by Amity Health in partnership with Edith Cowan University’s Food Community Project. The project aims to improve access to healthy, affordable and locally available food across the Outstanding Southern and Southern Wheatbelt.

Working alongside community leaders, Aboriginal and culturally and linguistically diverse (CALD) communities, government, food retail and food relief partners, the project supports community-led action to strengthen food access, improve local food systems, encourage nutrition, cooking and gardening initiatives, and build sustainable local skills and capacity.

About the Role

This is a hands-on community development role where you’ll work directly with communities to support existing Food Action Groups, strengthen local partnerships and contribute to community-led responses that improve food access and wellbeing.

You’ll spend your time engaging with community champions, Aboriginal leaders and local organisations, facilitating collaboration, supporting community priorities and helping drive practical actions identified through local food action plans.

As the Food Action Development Officer, you will:

- Support the delivery of the Food Action Group Project through a place-based community development approach that strengthens local leadership, partnerships and community capacity.
- Work alongside Aboriginal community leaders, community members and partner organisations to support the continued development of community-led Food Action Groups and local food action plans.




- Facilitate engagement and participation across communities, supporting local champions to contribute to positive community outcomes.
- Build and maintain strong relationships with government, food retail, food relief and community sector partners to support coordinated local responses.
- Support co-design activities that empower communities to identify priorities and develop sustainable local solutions.
- Assist with stakeholder meetings, community working groups and partnership activities that progress project goals.
- Apply evaluation tools and reporting frameworks to monitor project effectiveness, outcomes and community impact.
- Provide evidence-informed insights regarding community needs, project outcomes and opportunities for improvement.
- Coordinate project administration, communications, record keeping and reporting activities in line with funding and organisational requirements.
- Support governance processes for Food Action Groups, including implementation of Terms of Reference and effective decision-making processes.

This is a Part-Time role, 2 days per week. We are flexible on location and welcome applications from candidates based across the Great Southern and Southern Wheatbelt regions. While our preference is for the successful candidate to be located in Katanning or elsewhere within the Great Southern or Wheatbelt. Regular travel to participating communities across the Great Southern and Southern Wheatbelt is an essential requirement of the role.

About You

You are passionate about community development and enjoy connecting people, strengthening partnerships and supporting communities to lead meaningful, locally driven change.

You bring

- Knowledge, skills or experience in community development, including community-led approaches that support practical, dignified and place-based responses to food insecurity.
- An interest in systems-focused approaches that address food insecurity, poverty and barriers to equitable access to healthy and affordable food.
- Strong written, verbal and interpersonal communication skills.




- The ability to build effective relationships and work collaboratively with a diverse range of stakeholders.
- Well-developed digital literacy skills, including proficiency in Microsoft Office and data management systems.
- The ability to analyse, interpret and communicate information effectively.
- The ability to work independently, show initiative and contribute positively within a team environment.

Essential Requirements

- Tertiary qualification in Social Sciences, Community Development, Community Services, and/or a minimum of three years’ experience in community development or a related role.
- Current National Police Clearance or willingness to obtain.
- Current Working with Children Check or willingness to obtain.
- Current WA Driver’s Licence.

Desirable

- Knowledge of continuous quality improvement principles and practices.
- Experience working in a community-based setting.
- Experience engaging and working with a broad range of people, agencies and community groups.
