Role Overview:
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the HR and Safety Advisor will be Australian Turf’s principal internal resource for Human Resources and workplace health and safety.
Based at our Allenview farm, the role will provide practical advice and support to leaders and employees across our four Queensland and Victorian farms. It combines hands-on HR delivery, employee relations, recruitment, injury management, safety systems, training, compliance and continuous improvement. As a people-focused role, you will work closely with senior leaders, area managers, supervisors, employees and external specialist advisers across farming and maintenance operations, logistics and deliveries, sales and marketing, and support services.
Being based within the operational business will enable you to build trusted relationships, understand how work is performed and provide practical, responsive support to leaders and employees.
Key Responsibilities:
Human Resources
· Provide practical advice, coaching and support to managers on employee relations, performance management, workforce planning, remuneration,
employee development, training and Modern Award interpretation.
· Manage recruitment, employment documentation, onboarding and employee lifecycle processes.
· Coordinate performance review, succession planning, recognition and learning and development activities.
· Develop and maintain practical HR policies, procedures, systems and records.
· Manage workers’ compensation claims, injury management and return-to-work arrangements.
· Produce meaningful workforce metrics and reports for management and the Board.
· Manage recurring HR programs and one-off projects and initiatives.
Health and Safety
· Champion a proactive safety culture and support leaders to identify hazards and eliminate or otherwise minimise workplace injuries and health and safety risks.
· Maintain and continuously improve Australian Turf’s WHS systems, policies, procedures and records.
· Coordinate workplace inspections, risk assessments, audits, corrective actions and safety meetings.
· Facilitate incident, near miss and hazard reporting, investigations and close-out actions.
· Coordinate inductions, training, licences and competency records.
· Support contractor management and Chain of Responsibility compliance.
· Coordinate safety actions, systems and records to maintain compliance and ensure the business is audit-ready.
· Promote practical consultation and employee participation in health and safety.
· Provide regular safety reporting to senior management and the Board.
About You:
You will be a practical and approachable HR and safety professional who enjoys working closely with operational employees and leaders. You will be comfortable working independently, building relationships and taking ownership of matters through to completion.
Ideally, you will have:
· a clear understanding that your role is to provide subject matter expertise, advice and support that enables leaders to achieve effective people, culture and safety outcomes within their areas of accountability;
· at least three years’ broad Human Resources experience, or other experience demonstrating readiness to undertake a role of this scope;
· practical workplace health and safety experience, preferably within an operational, agricultural, manufacturing, logistics or other blue-collar environment;
· sound knowledge of Australian employment legislation, Modern Awards and workplace relations practices;
· working knowledge of WHS legislation, workers’ compensation, injury management and return-to-work requirements;
· demonstrated experience advising and coaching managers;
· solid written communication, documentation and reporting skills;
· strong organisational skills and the ability to manage competing priorities through to completion;
· sound judgement, resilience and the ability to manage sensitive and confidential issues;
· relevant qualifications in Human Resources and workplace health and safety will be highly regarded, although substantial equivalent practical experience will also be positively considered; and
· a current driver licence and willingness to undertake regular interstate and intrastate travel, including planned visits to each of Australian Turf’s farms.
