About Powerhouse
Powerhouse Museum is located at the intersection of arts, design, science, and technology and plays a critical role in engaging communities with contemporary ideas and issues. It is the custodian of more than half a million objects of national and international significance and is considered one of the finest and most diverse collections in Australia. We are undertaking a landmark $1.3 billion infrastructure renewal program, led by the creation of Powerhouse Parramatta; expanded research and public facilities at Powerhouse Castle Hill; the heritage revitalisation of the iconic Powerhouse Ultimo; and the ongoing operation of Sydney Observatory.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Are you curious about museums, history, science or design? Join the Powerhouse team as a Collections Research Intern and explore one of Australia's most significant museum collections. Working alongside fellow interns and Powerhouse staff, you will research themes across the Powerhouse Collection of more than 500,000 objects, uncovering the stories, connections and significance of objects spanning science, technology, design, innovation, history and culture.
This primarily virtual internship provides an opportunity to develop qualified research skills while contributing to museum knowledge and interpretation. You'll work both independently and collaboratively,
sharing your findings with Powerhouse staff and fellow interns through presentations and discussion.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Research themes and objects within the Powerhouse Collection
- Investigate the historical, cultural and social significance of collection objects
- Collaborate with fellow interns to develop and share research findings
- Present your research to Powerhouse staff and other participants
- Contribute to museum knowledge and interpretation
