About Powerhouse

Powerhouse Museum is located at the intersection of arts, design, science, and technology and plays a critical role in engaging communities with contemporary ideas and issues. It is the custodian of more than half a million objects of national and international significance and is considered one of the finest and most diverse collections in Australia. We are undertaking a landmark $1.3 billion infrastructure renewal program, led by the creation of Powerhouse Parramatta; expanded research and public facilities at Powerhouse Castle Hill; the heritage revitalisation of the iconic Powerhouse Ultimo; and the ongoing operation of Sydney Observatory.

Powerhouse Food Internship

About the Role

Are you interested in food, culture, community and the arts? As a Powerhouse Food Intern, you will support the Powerhouse Food team in the planning, administration and coordination of programs that celebrate Western Sydney's diverse food cultures, producers and communities.

Working alongside Powerhouse staff, you will contribute to the behind-the-scenes work that supports public programs and partnerships. This may include preparing presentations and briefing materials, conducting research, coordinating project documentation, maintaining records, supporting communications and assisting with program administration.

This internship is particularly suited to students with a strong understanding of Western Sydney's food landscape and communities.



Experience working in family-run food businesses, restaurants, markets or related environments will be highly regarded, as will an interest in museums, visual arts and cultural programming.

Learning Opportunities

Through this internship, you will have the opportunity to:

- Gain experience supporting the administration and planning of museum-based food programs

- Develop practical skills in project coordination, research and qualified communication

- Create presentations, briefing materials and supporting documentation for public programs

- Learn how cultural institutions collaborate with chefs, producers, and community partners

- Build knowledge of Western Sydney's food cultures, industries and communities

- Explore the role of food in storytelling, cultural expression and public programming
