Junior AI Engineer
Sydney · Three days per week · Casual contract
It's nice to meet you and welcome to our role! :) Before we get into the fun stuff, we ask that if you like what you see below and want to apply, you send an email to the hiring managers listed at the bottom of the JD. Please include a cover letter and a portfolio if you have one. Thank you.
COMPANY OVERVIEW
We're Swan Studio, B&T;'s Emerging Agency of the Year and one of the fastest growing social media agencies in Australia. We empower brands like Hungry Jacks, Juniper and Canva to transform scrolls into sales, all thanks to our unique blend of data-driven strategy and bold execution.
Our founders come from a tech background and have been building bespoke tools for the business since day one. AI-assisted coding has changed the pace of that. In the last 6 months, we’ve built and shipped 20+ internal apps that are live today, covering all aspects of the business. Every one of them exists to make our team better at their craft and to drive efficiencies within the business.
If you want to build software that people use the same week you build it, and see it change how a business runs, you'll find your home here.
ROLE SUMMARY
As a Junior AI Engineer, you'll help design and build the bespoke tools our creative and operations teams run on. You'll use AI to move at a pace traditional development can't match, and you'll sit close enough to the people using your work to know what they need before they file a request.
This is a role for someone who wants to become a product-led developer. We care less about how deep you can go in the code and more about how well you think about what should be built and why. You will work closely with the founders of the business and the senior leadership team who will give you direction on what you build.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Build and ship internal applications that make our creatives and operators better at their craft
- Make real product decisions on what to build, what to cut and how a tool should work for the person using it
- Work directly with strategists, editors, producers and our leadership team to scope problems and validate solutions
- Iterate on live tools in response to real usage, not hypothetical requirements
- Use AI development tooling to compress build cycles from months to days
REQUIREMENTS
- Currently in your third year of a computer science degree or beyond, or a recent graduate
- Have experience with AI-enabled coding like Claude Code or Codex
- Comfortable building and shipping working software end to end, not only writing isolated code
- Genuine interest in product thinking. You ask who this is for and what job it does before you open an editor
- Evidence you've built something of your own. A side project, a startup attempt, a tool you made because it annoyed you that it didn't exist
- Explicit written communication and the confidence to articulate what you’ve built to various stakeholders
- Available three days per week
NICE TO HAVE
- Product background of any kind, formal or self-taught
- Any exposure to marketing, creative or agency environments
BENEFITS AND COMPENSATION
- Direct mentorship from our founders on product and engineering decisions
- A short path from idea to production. Nothing you build sits in a backlog
- Real ownership of tools that the whole business depends on
- The chance to pioneer AI-driven build methods inside an ambitious, future-focused studio
