The Opportunity

We are seeking a Junior Legal Counsel (Operations) to join our team in a newly created position reporting jointly to the General Counsel and the Chief Operating Officer.

Sitting at the intersection of legal and operations, this role will drive and facilitate the integration of institutional clients into Coolabah's portfolios from initial engagement through to onboarding, funding and ongoing operational support. Your legal skills, combined with your appetite to get things done, will see you work closely with the investment, operations, compliance and distribution teams, as well as external counsel, custodians and counterparties, to ensure institutional mandates are established efficiently and on robust legal foundations.

Key Responsibilities

Under the supervision of the General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer, you will:

- Drive and facilitate the end-to-end integration of institutional clients into Coolabah's portfolios, coordinating legal, operational and compliance workstreams.
- Draft, review and negotiate client-facing documentation, including investment management agreements, side letters, subscription documents and fee arrangements.
- Support the establishment and onboarding of new mandates and fund structures across multiple jurisdictions.
- Liaise with custodians, administrators, prime brokers and clearing counterparties on account opening, transition and documentation matters.




- Assist with derivatives and trading documentation (including ISDA and related agreements) as it relates to new client portfolios.
- Coordinate KYC/AML, regulatory and internal approval processes for incoming institutional clients.
- Support the General Counsel and Chief Operating Officer on ad hoc legal and operational projects across the business.

About You

- Admitted to practice in an Australian jurisdiction (or eligible for admission).
- 1 to 4 years' post-admission experience. Backgrounds in funds management, banking and finance, M&A; or corporate transactions are well suited to this role; as is grad program completion at a big 8 law firm.
- Solid drafting and negotiation skills, with meticulous attention to detail.
- Commercially minded, with the ability to translate legal issues into practical, business-ready solutions.
- Highly organised and comfortable managing multiple concurrent workstreams to deadline.
- Exposure to financial services, funds management or institutional clients is an advantage but not essential.
