Simmonds Steel, part of the Simmonds Group, is a growing steel fabrication business based in Western Australia, specializing in mild steel fabrication and reinforcing steel prefabrication. We are seeking Leading Hand – Welding & Fabrication to join our team at our in Landsdale and Sawyers Valley workshops manufacturing pile cages.

About the Role

This is a hands-on leadership role where you will lead a small team while remaining actively involved in fabrication and welding which includes machine setup , staff management, checking welding procedures. The successful candidate will have the prospect to progress into a Workshop Supervisor position as the business continues to grow.

Key Responsibilities

- Lead and supervise workshop employees to ensure safe and efficient operations.
- Read and interpret engineering drawings.
- Supervise, train and inspect MIG welding and fabrication to a high standard.
- Allocate daily work and monitor production schedules.
- Ensure quality standards are maintained throughout production.
- Mentor and train apprentices and workshop staff.
- Liaise with management to ensure production targets are achieved.
- Assist with continuous improvement initiatives.
- Fabrication and assembly of rebar cages and reinforcement products.
- Operating cage welding machines, jigs, and fabrication equipment.
- Performing general fabrication duties as required.
- Maintaining a safe, clean, and organized work environment.
- Assisting with workflow coordination within the workshops.

About You





- Trade qualification in Boiler making /Fabrication or equivalent.
- Proven experience in fabrication and welding.
- Previous Leading Hand or supervisory experience (preferred).
- Ability to read and interpret fabrication drawings.
- Strong organizational and leadership skills.
- Excellent communication and problem-solving abilities.
- Forklift license (desirable).
- Commitment to workplace safety and quality workmanship.
- Experience working with mild steel and/or reinforcing steel fabrication.
- Experience using fabrication equipment, machines, and jigs.
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to quality workmanship.
- Reliable, hardworking, and able to work effectively in a fast-paced workshop environment.
- CNC machine experience preferred not essential.
- Weld inspection experience but not essential.
