The Opportunity An exciting opportunity is available for a Learning Area Coordinator - Science to join our leadership team on a 12-month contract, for the 2027 school year.
The Learning Area Coordinator - Science will lead regular curriculum meetings and ensure that science resources, laboratory equipment, digital tools, and practical materials are managed and organised effectively. The LAC will be accountable for maintaining high standards in educational delivery, ensuring the seamless coordination of academically rigorous and diverse Science programs across the College.
Leadership of the faculty includes providing exemplary support to staff in their professional development and mentoring, promoting innovative science pedagogy and contemporary inquiry-based practices, fostering safe, engaging, and immersive laboratory and classroom environments, and supporting staff with curriculum organisation, safety compliance, and documentation.
Key Responsibilities The Learning Area Coordinator - Science will :
- Build the capacity and nurture the professional development of staff within the Science faculty
- Lead the educational focus and implementation of the Australian Curriculum (ACARA) for Science, ensuring a seamless transition into SACE preparation
- Support and promote cutting-edge, inquiry-based, practical, and experiential Science pedagogy
- Ensure students have a safe, dynamic learning environment and access to a broad, relevant, and challenging Science curriculum
- Inspire faculty staff by promoting contemporary, contextual, and real-world scientific learning opportunities
- Prepare and maintain faculty budgets, ensuring effective resource allocation for Science programs, equipment, and laboratory consumables
- Oversee the preparation and monitoring of teaching, assessment, and practical investigation plans
- Ensure the organised and efficient management, storage, and compliance monitoring of teaching, learning, and laboratory safety documentation (including risk assessments and safety data)
- Collaborate effectively with other Pedare staff across the College
- Relate well to students, recognising both the pastoral and educative aspects of the student-teacher relationship
- Maintain a strong interest in, and actively promote, student wellbeing and welfare
- Undertake occasional out-of-hours commitments as required by the nature of the role
