Role Summary The Learning Support teacher will provide language learning support to students, schedule lessons, update individual Language Goals, and liaise with year patrons and subject-specific teachers. They will participate in school-wide initiatives, attend professional learning programs, and communicate with parents. The successful candidate will have teaching experience, be organised and proactive, and have excellent communication skills.

Key Accountabilities

Assessment & Monitoring

- Use Standardised and Curriculum-Based Assessments to identify student needs and to inform the creation and implementation of interventions
- Collect data and add to tracking systems (academic, social-emotional, and behavioural)




- Ensure Learning Support departmental documentation is up to date
- Maintain student files (paper and electronic) according to school and legal standards

Collaboration with Stakeholders

- Work in collaboration with teaching staff, parents, external providers, and executives to ensure the needs of students are being met
- Work in cooperation with the Head of Learning Support, Head of Academic Care, Head of Learning and Teaching and Patrons
- At the direction of the Head of Learning Support, liaise with external providers (e.g., Psychologists, Speech Pathologists, Occupational Therapists)
- Work with class teachers to develop and implement in-class strategies and intervention

Funding

- Have knowledge of the Nationally Consistent Collection of Data (NCCD) requirements
- Collate evidence and assist in the categorisation of students eligible for funding under NCCD

Curriculum / Program Design & Implementation

- Have an understanding and can support the teaching of the NSW Curriculum
- Work with class teachers to modify curriculum
- Support teachers to appropriately differentiate programs, lessons, tasks, and assessments
- Design and create curriculum and support materials, e.g., visual schedules and graphic organisers
- Develop, implement, and evaluate learning support programs
- Integrate recent developments, research findings and best practices into ongoing programs and new initiatives.

Individual Plans

- Contribute to Individual Plan meetings and engage with parents and external providers
- Support the development of Individual Plans
- Ensure effective and ethical implementation of Individual Plans

Professional Development

- Maintain a working knowledge of current legislation (Disability Discrimination Act 1992 and the Disability Standards for Education 2005)
- Develop and maintain professional knowledge, current research, and best practice




- Provide technical assistance to support staff, teachers, related service providers and service professionals e.g., use of computer systems for the special education process, goal writing, progress reports, reviews, parent communication, differentiation, and effective instruction for students with special education needs
- Where appropriate, facilitate workshops and professional learning for teachers with a focus on evidence-based strategies, disability awareness and internal processes and procedures

Learning Support

- Prepare and source learning resources and assessments for students whose current achievement is significantly below their current stage of schooling
- Provision of in-class support within mainstream classes
- Provide learning support lessons to individual and small groups of students with diverse and complex learning needs, including behavioural, social-emotional, and academic needs
- Implement evidence-based interventions such as MacqLit
