Programa

Melbourne

Programa is the operating system for the global design industry, trusted by thousands of interior designers in more than 90 countries. Designers and studios run their businesses on Programa - schedules, procurement, budgets, invoicing, and client billing. Billions of dollars of furniture, fixtures, and products are specified through the platform every year, and we're now building the transaction infrastructure underneath it.

The prospect

Payments at Programa is early, and it's foundational. We're not bolting a "pay now" button onto invoices - we're building the financial workflows the design industry actually runs on. Programa Pay, our embedded payments product, is live today and there's plenty still to build.

You’ll be the dedicated product manager for payments - partnering with leadership to build strategy, and owning the execution end to end. You’ll build the roadmap and be accountable not just for what ships, but for adoption and the revenue it generates.

What you’ll do

- Build and execute the payments roadmap - from discovery through funds-flow design, build, launch, and adoption. Work day-to-day with design and engineering - defining clear scope, requirements and priorities, driving stakeholder alignment, and ensuring fast decision-making.
- Drive adoption across our existing base - adoption unlocks everything else. You’ll own the funnel and incentive experiments, and partner with Design, Engineering, and Marketing to move attach, volume, and retention through product-led motions. Diagnose when numbers stall and drive the interventions that move them.
- Ship core money‑movement primitives: payment acceptance across cards, ACH, and local bank methods; retainers and held balances; payouts; and multi‑party flows between clients, designers, and brands.
- Shape the financial workflows around payments - invoicing, accounting integrations (Xero/QuickBooks), and the tools designers use to run budgets, cashflow, and profitability.
- Design for US and international rails. Our customers are global.

You’ll work out how we move money reliably in each market – and build the case for what order we expand in.
- Navigate risk and compliance - KYC and onboarding friction, disputes, chargebacks, and fraud - working closely with our payments partners, and knowing when to bring in the experts.
- Understand the customer. You’ll talk to designers and studios every week and translate how they actually handle money - deposits, trade pricing, client billing - into product.

What you’ll bring

- Payments experience. 5+ years in product management, with significant time on payments, fintech, or embedded finance. You have built payments products before and are familiar with both US and international payments. You understand how rails work end to end and what it takes to move money reliably at scale.
- PSP depth. You’ve shipped real products on top of providers like Stripe, Adyen, or Airwallex - including platform/marketplace funds flows (Connect-style architectures, destination charges, split payments) - and you understand the commercial side of those relationships, not just the API docs.
- Issuing and acquiring. Ideally you’ve worked across both sides - accepting money in and putting spend instruments out - and understand the economics and risk profile of each.
- Commercial instinct. You think in basis points. You can build the margin model for a payment method, spot where the economics break, and back a pricing recommendation with imperfect data.
- 0→1 comfort. You’re at home with ambiguity, you’d rather ship and learn than write the perfect PRD, and you can operate without a big payments org around you.

Nice to have

- Vertical SaaS or SMB embedded-fintech experience - payments built into workflow software, not standalone
- Familiarity with the regulatory landscape for platform payments (money transmission, safeguarding/escrow‑adjacent structures) in the US, AU, or UK/EU
- Exposure to the accounting ecosystem (Xero, QuickBooks) or B2B invoicing workflows.
- Exposure to design, construction, procurement, or another project-based industry with staged payments and trade pricing
