Position Objective
We are seeking a qualified and compassionate Financial Counsellor to join our Support Services team. Reporting to the General Manager – Support Services, this role provides independent, confidential and professional financial counselling to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship.
You will work directly with customers to assess financial circumstances, explore options, advocate with third parties, and connect people to appropriate supports - aiming to reduce the economic, social and emotional impact of financial stress.
This role is based in Bundaberg and plays a critical part in supporting vulnerable community members to achieve improved financial outcomes.
Key Responsibilities
- Customer Support and Financial Assistance: Support customers, particularly those experiencing financial hardship or crisis, to understand their income and expenses, plan future spending, and access appropriate advice, advocacy, referral or intake services in line with Regional Housing programs and availability.
- Service Delivery and Compliance: Deliver high-quality customer service in accordance with statutory requirements, program guidelines, service agreements and Regional Housing policies, working closely with the General Manager – Support Services (or delegate) to ensure consistency and compliance.
- Records, Reporting and Confidentiality: Maintain accurate, current and confidential customer, tenant and service records, undertake quality assurance of records,
extract data and prepare reports as required to meet statutory, organisational and funding reporting requirements, including work plans and Key Performance Indicators.
- Community Partnerships and Engagement: Develop, maintain and lead effective partnerships with community agencies, government services and the commercial sector to strengthen customer access to local supports and promote financial counselling and related initiatives throughout the year.
- Leadership, Teamwork and Culture: Model best practice, professionalism and Regional Housing values, actively contribute to an inclusive and supportive workplace culture, support colleagues, shared tasks and organisational objectives, and work with senior management on strategic goals or specific projects as required.
- Training, Development and Safety: Undertake and maintain mandatory and program-specific training and professional development, provide required updates to management, proactively support risk minimisation and workplace safety, and assist with reception, phone and appointment-booking duties as required.

You are empathetic, qualified, and calm under pressure, with a strong commitment to ethical practice and customer-centred service. You are organised, detail-focused and comfortable managing complex situations while balancing reporting and compliance requirements.
Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling)
Eligible for, or current membership, with Financial Counselling Queensland (FCAQ)
Demonstrated experience delivering financial counselling services
Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills
Ability to manage customers experiencing crisis or distress
Sound case management, time management and organisational skills
Competency using Microsoft Office and case management systems
