Mechanical Engineering Technician

Position Overview

We are looking for a skilled and motivated Mechanical Engineering Technician to join our team and provide essential technical support across a range of mechanical engineering activities. Working closely with Mechanical Engineers and Engineering Technologists, you will play a key role in the testing, installation, inspection, and maintenance of mechanical systems and assemblies. This role suits a detail-oriented professional with hands-on experience in mechanical environments who takes pride in delivering accurate, compliant, and high-quality technical work.

Key Responsibilities

- Select, prepare, and operate appropriate tools, equipment, and machinery to carry out technical tasks safely and efficiently

- Assemble, install, and modify mechanical assemblies, components, machine tools, controls, and hydraulic power systems in accordance with engineering specifications

- Estimate material costs and quantities, and assess machine requirements to support project planning and procurement activities

- Plan, perform, and direct field and laboratory tests to evaluate the performance and integrity of mechanical systems

- Collect and analyse technical data, carry out complex computations, and prepare clear and accurate diagrams, reports, and technical documentation

- Organise and supervise the inspection, servicing, and maintenance of machines, plant, and equipment to ensure continued operational reliability

- Verify that designs, fabrications, and completed works conform to applicable specifications, regulations, standards, and contract provisions

- Liaise with engineers, project managers, and external contractors to coordinate technical activities and resolve engineering issues in a timely manner

- Identify faults, diagnose mechanical failures, and implement corrective or preventative maintenance solutions to minimise downtime





- Support continuous improvement initiatives by contributing technical insights and recommending enhancements to processes, systems, or equipment

- Maintain accurate records of maintenance activities, test results, and inspection findings in line with company and regulatory requirements

- Adhere to workplace health and safety obligations, including the use of personal protective equipment and compliance with relevant Australian safety standards

Required Qualifications & Skills

- Certificate III or IV in Engineering – Mechanical Trade, or an equivalent technical qualification in a relevant discipline

- Demonstrated experience in a mechanical engineering or trades environment, with hands-on involvement in assembly, installation, or maintenance work

- Proficiency in reading and interpreting engineering drawings, schematics, and technical specifications

- Sound knowledge of mechanical systems, hydraulic systems, and related components

- Robust data collection and analytical skills, with the ability to carry out technical computations and prepare accurate reports and diagrams

- Experience in conducting and directing field and laboratory tests, including documentation of results

- Ability to estimate materials, costs, and equipment requirements in support of project delivery

- Solid understanding of Australian workplace health and safety legislation and best practice, including relevant industry standards

- Excellent attention to detail with a methodical and organised approach to technical work





- Effective communication skills with the ability to collaborate across engineering, operations, and project teams

Preferred Qualifications

- Diploma or Advanced Diploma of Engineering (Mechanical) or equivalent tertiary qualification

- Experience with hydraulic power systems or precision mechanical assemblies in an industrial or manufacturing setting

- Familiarity with computer-aided design (CAD) software such as AutoCAD or SolidWorks

- Current knowledge of relevant Australian Standards and engineering codes applicable to mechanical systems

- Trade licence or certificate of competency relevant to the role

- Previous experience in a supervisory or lead technician capacity

- Industry-specific experience in sectors such as mining, oil and gas, construction, or heavy manufacturing
