Endeavour Chambers is seeking a part-time Secretary to join our team in Cairns. This is an integral position that will provide essential administrative and secretarial support to our chambers, ensuring the smooth operation of our legal practice. Working part-time, this role offers flexibility whilst allowing you to make a meaningful contribution to our organisation.
You will be based in Cairns and will play a crucial role in supporting our barristers and staff through high-quality administrative and organisational services.
What you'll be doing
- Managing and maintaining filing systems, both physical and digital, ensuring all documents are organised and easily retrievable;
- Preparing and formatting legal documents, correspondence and court papers with accuracy and attention to detail;
- Answering telephone enquiries and directing calls to appropriate staff members;
- Scheduling appointments and maintaining calendars for barristers;
- Handling confidential information with discretion and maintaining client confidentiality;
- Performing general clerical duties including photocopying, scanning and collating documents;
- Assisting with the maintenance of practice management systems and databases;
- Supporting the smooth running of chambers through administrative coordination;
- Greeting visitors and clients with professionalism and courtesy; and
- Undertaking other secretarial duties as required to support the chambers.
What we're looking for
- Proven experience as a secretary or in a similar administrative support role, ideally within a legal environment;
- Excellent typing and written communication skills;
- Strong organisational abilities with the capacity to manage multiple tasks and prioritise effectively;
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office applications and general computer literacy;
- Demonstrated discretion and the ability to handle confidential and sensitive information;
- A professional attitude and excellent customer service skills;
- Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy in all work;
- The ability to work independently and as part of a team;
- Flexibility and adaptability to meet the changing needs of the chambers; and
- Knowledge of legal terminology and court procedures is advantageous but not essential.
