About the role The Senior Business Intelligence Analyst exists to give the MD and CEO timely, accurate, real-time insight into the business. Sitting within the BI & PO function and embedded alongside the TL team, the role turns raw transactional data into trustworthy answers primarily through SQL querying and ad-hoc reporting.
A defining feature of this role is that it operates against the database in its current state. Success depends not just on writing queries, but on validating SQL logic, untangling and consolidating business rules, and building a reliable,
shared understanding of what the data means to drive insights and decision making.
The core responsibility is business-as-usual (BAU) reporting support and business insights; over time, there is a strong opportunity to mature this work into a modern reporting platform. Key responsibilities
Reporting & insights Respond to ad-hoc data and reporting requests from the MD, CEO and senior stakeholders, often under time pressure.
Provide real-time and near-real-time insights to support executive decision-making.
Deliver dependable BAU reporting support as the day-to-day backbone of the role. SQL & data analysis
Write, optimise and maintain complex SQL queries, including advanced and multi-table joins, against transactional data.
Validate and quality-check SQL code (your own and others') to ensure outputs are accurate and defensible.
Investigate data discrepancies and reconcile conflicting figures back to source. Business logic & data context Consolidate and document business logic, definitions and data context so reporting is consistent and repeatable.
Build and maintain a single, shared understanding of how key metrics are calculated.
Act as a trusted reference point for "what the numbers mean" across the business. Platform improvement Where possible, re-build ad-hoc reports into the Databricks reporting suite to reduce manual effort and improve scalability.
Contribute to lifting reporting maturity over time,
moving away from one-off queries toward sustainable, productionised reporting. Selection criteria

Comfort working with a database in an imperfect state, and the resourcefulness to deliver reliable results regardless.
Strong stakeholder skills, including the confidence and clarity to support executive-level (MD / CEO) requests directly. Desirable
Experience with Databricks and modern reporting/BI tooling (i.e., Power BI).
Track record of converting ad-hoc reports into productionised, reusable reporting.
Experience working alongside technical / engineering teams. This is a Sydney-based, permanent opportunity, with an onsite requirement of 5 days per week in the office. No agencies please. Candidates must have valid visa with full work rights in Australia.
