About the Job:

Position: Senior Development Engineer

Location: Sydney, Australia

Role Summary: We are looking for a Senior Rust Engineer to build high-performance, scalable backend systems for Prospecta’s next-generation data infrastructure platform. This role requires strong expertise in production-grade Rust, async programming, and systems-level problem solving, along with the ability to independently drive complex technical solutions in a fast-paced engineering environment.

Must Have:

- 5+ years of software engineering experience in Java and at least 2+ years of hands-on production Rust development.
- Strong expertise in asynchronous Rust programming using Tokio or similar frameworks.
- Deep understanding of Rust memory ownership, borrowing, lifetimes, allocations, and buffer management.
- Experience building and shipping production-grade distributed or high-performance backend systems.
- Strong understanding of concurrency, backpressure handling, cancellation, streams, and async execution models.
- Ability to independently solve technically ambiguous problems and deliver working solutions.
- Experience designing APIs, libraries,



or reusable engineering frameworks.
- Strong debugging, problem-solving, and performance optimization skills.
- Excellent communication and collaboration skills.

Good to Have:

- Experience with high-throughput data processing systems or streaming architectures.
- Familiarity with columnar data formats or large structured datasets.
- Experience with gRPC in Rust.
- Exposure to cloud platforms and data lakes storage services (AWS, Azure, GCP).
- Understanding of query optimization concepts such as partitioning or predicate pushdown.
- Experience working in enterprise SaaS or B2B product environments.
- Exposure to data governance, data quality, or rules-engine platforms.
- Knowledge of CI/CD pipelines, containerization, and distributed systems architecture.
- Prior experience mentoring engineers or contributing to technical leadership initiatives.

Key Responsibilities: Systems & Software Engineering

- Design, develop, and maintain high-performance backend systems using Rust/Java.
- Build scalable and reliable asynchronous systems using concurrency patterns.
- Optimize system throughput, latency, memory usage, and I/O performance for large-scale data processing workloads.
- Develop robust APIs, internal libraries, and reusable engineering components.
- Participate in architecture discussions and contribute to technical decision-making.

Performance & Reliability




- Analyze and improve memory allocation patterns, buffer ownership, and serialization performance.
- Implement efficient processing strategies for streaming and large structured datasets.
- Ensure code quality, maintainability, and production readiness through testing, debugging, and code reviews.
- Identify bottlenecks proactively and recommend scalable engineering solutions.

Collaboration & Delivery
- Work closely with cross-functional engineering and product teams to deliver solutions aligned with business goals.
- Operate effectively in technically ambiguous environments and independently drive implementation approaches.
- Contribute to engineering best practices, technical documentation, and knowledge sharing across the team.
- Collaborate with distributed global teams while ensuring effective communication and delivery alignment.
