Our client is a prominent international resources organisation with significant mining operations and an increasingly complex Australian business. While the scale, governance and reporting standards reflect those of a major global organisation, the local culture remains grounded, collaborative and hands-on. This newly scoped Senior Group Accountant position will play an significant role in ensuring the accuracy, timeliness and integrity of financial reporting across the Australian group and its mining operations.
Working closely with senior finance leadership, operational teams, joint venture partners and external auditors, you will take a leading role in the monthly, quarterly and annual reporting cycles. You will support group consolidations, statutory reporting, while helping ensure the business continues to operate within a strong SOX control environment.
The role offers significant exposure to technical accounting, financial controls and finance transformation. You will help assess and document complex accounting matters, maintain audit-ready technical papers and contribute to the ongoing implementation and optimisation of SAP.
You'll also gain exposure to an international business with joint venture interests spanning Australia and overseas, requiring someone who enjoys working across a diverse and technically complex operating environment.
Key focus areas will include:
- Preparing and consolidating monthly, quarterly and annual financial statements across the Australian group.
- Supporting accurate and timely reporting across mining operations, projects and joint venture interests.
- Researching and applying IFRS and AASB requirements to complex or non-routine transactions.
- Preparing technical accounting papers covering areas such as impairment, provisions, leases and revenue recognition.
- Coordinating statutory, internal and SOX audit requirements while responding to auditor queries.
- Reviewing and strengthening financial controls, policies and reporting procedures.
- Supporting SAP implementation, integration and reporting optimisation initiatives.
- Identifying opportunities to automate, standardise and improve finance processes across the group.
- Working closely with operational, planning, project and joint venture finance teams to ensure consistent and reliable reporting across Australia and international operations.
We are looking for a technically capable and commercially aware accounting professional who enjoys working close to the detail while understanding the broader business context. Just as importantly, you'll enjoy working in a collaborative, high-performing finance team where deadlines matter and relationships are valued. You will be proactive, organised and able to manage competing priorities while building credibility with operational stakeholders, auditors and senior leaders alike. Experience with SAP, finance transformation or reporting improvement initiatives will further strengthen your application.
