- Location: Any NSW office (Central West and North West preferred) – regional location encouraged/hybrid working supported
- Salary ranges from $133,348.00 to $146,945.00 + super & leave loading
About the Role As a Senior Inspector Compliance with NSW Resources, you will play a key role in supporting safe, responsible and sustainable mining practices across the unique opal mining regions of Lightning Ridge and White Cliffs. As an authorised Inspector under the Mining Act 1992, you will undertake inspections, investigations and enforcement activities that help maintain confidence in the sector while protecting communities, the environment and supporting the long-term future of mining in NSW.
Working across field and office environments, you will investigate potential breaches of legislation, conduct interviews with claim holders, manage compliance matters and prepare reports that support regulatory and enforcement outcomes. You will undertake inspections relating to Mineral Claims and Opal Prospecting Licences, assess applications for restricted mining activities, respond to stakeholder enquiries and complaints, and work closely with Mine Safety Officers on compliance and safety initiatives. With two exciting opportunities available, one temporary role up until 1/07/2028 and another temporary role for up to three years, both with the possibility of extension,
this is a unique opportunity to make a meaningful impact while building strong connections with industry, government and regional communities.

About You
We are seeking motivated and professional compliance practitioners who are passionate about achieving positive regulatory outcomes and supporting the sustainable future of the NSW resources sector. You bring sound judgement, integrity and strong communication skills, with the ability to build trusted relationships, navigate complex issues and make balanced, evidence-based decisions.
Your strengths may include
- Experience in compliance, enforcement, investigations, regulation or a related field
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with the ability to assess information and make sound recommendations
- Excellent communication and stakeholder engagement skills, including the ability to manage sensitive conversations and resolve issues effectively
- The ability to interpret and apply legislation, policies and regulatory frameworks
- A proactive approach to managing competing priorities and working independently in dynamic environments
- A commitment to integrity, accountability and high professional standards
- Experience in environmental management, environmental compliance or natural resource management
- Experience working within government, a regulatory environment or a public sector setting
- Knowledge of mine rehabilitation, land management or environmental assessment processes
Essential Requirements
- Tertiary qualifications awarded by a recognised institution that is relevant to NSW mining legislation, the setting or natural resources management, law or equivalent relevant experience.
- A current NSW Driver Licence and willingness to regularly travel to remote locations, including Lightning Ridge and White Cliffs
- Compliance with pre-employment integrity screening and pecuniary interests declarations are mandatory and a condition of engagement.
- Appointment and ongoing assignment is subject to the satisfactory participation in ongoing health screening.
