UCentric is partnering with a leading global technology organisation to appoint a Senior Mainframe Modernisation Consultant .

This is a senior consulting opportunity for an experienced mainframe and cloud professional who enjoys helping large organisations modernise complex legacy environments and transition critical workloads to the cloud.

You will work directly with enterprise customers to assess mainframe estates, shape modernisation strategies and lead complex transformation programs. This role brings together deep mainframe expertise with modern cloud architecture, migration and application modernisation, giving you the opportunity to influence how organisations transform some of their most business-critical technology platforms.

The role would suit someone who understands both the realities of legacy mainframe environments and the opportunities presented by modern cloud-native architecture. You'll be comfortable working with senior technical stakeholders, solving complex migration challenges and translating technical strategy into practical delivery.

About the role:

You will lead customers through complex mainframe modernisation journeys, from initial discovery and application portfolio assessment through to architecture, migration planning and implementation.

Working across technologies including z/OS, COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2 and VSAM , you'll help customers determine the right modernisation pathway for their setting. This could include replatforming, refactoring to cloud-native services or automated code transformation.

You'll also work across modern cloud technologies and migration services, helping customers reduce technical debt, improve operational efficiency and create a more flexible platform for future innovation.

This is a highly customer-facing role where technical depth, consulting capability and the ability to influence stakeholders are equally important.

Key Responsibilities:

- Lead discovery and assessment of complex enterprise mainframe environments.
- Analyse application portfolios, dependencies and modernisation readiness.
- Develop pragmatic modernisation strategies across replatforming, refactoring and re-engineering.




- Design and implement cloud-based solutions for modernising legacy mainframe workloads.
- Provide technical guidance across mainframe technologies including COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2 and VSAM.
- Develop migration strategies and prioritise workloads based on business value, technical complexity and risk.
- Support database modernisation and migration from technologies such as DB2, IMS and VSAM to cloud-native platforms.
- Work closely with customer architects, engineering teams and business stakeholders throughout transformation programs.
- Manage technical risks and challenges across complex migration and cutover activities.
- Advise customers on emerging modernisation approaches, including AI-assisted code analysis and generative AI for legacy code transformation.
- Help customer teams build the capability required to operate and manage modernised environments independently.
- Mentor other consultants and contribute reusable frameworks, playbooks, reference architectures and technical assets.

Key Qualifications:

- 7+ years' experience working with enterprise mainframe technologies.
- Strong hands-on experience across technologies such as z/OS, COBOL, PL/I, JCL, CICS, IMS, DB2 and VSAM .
- 5+ years' experience across application modernisation, enterprise migration or large-scale technology transformation.
- 3+ years' experience working with AWS or another major cloud platform.
- Strong understanding of cloud migration and modernisation patterns including replatforming, refactoring and re-engineering.
- Experience migrating mainframe databases and data stores into cloud-native databases or data platforms.
- Experience working with AWS migration and modernisation services such as AWS Mainframe Modernisation, DMS, SCT, Step Functions and Lambda.




- Strong customer-facing consulting or delivery experience across complex, multi-stakeholder transformation programs.
- Excellent stakeholder management, communication and technical advisory skills.

Highly Regarded

- Experience with Micro Focus, Rocket or similar mainframe replatforming technologies.
- Experience with application portfolio assessment, dependency mapping and workload disposition.
- Experience with serverless, containers or cloud operations.
- Exposure to AI-assisted code analysis, automated code transformation or generative AI tools.
- Experience developing migration frameworks, modernisation playbooks or reference architectures.
- Relevant AWS certifications.

Ideal backgrounds: Relevant backgrounds may include Mainframe Modernisation, Mainframe Architecture, Cloud Migration, Application Modernisation, Legacy Transformation, Cloud Consulting, Solutions Architecture or Enterprise Technology Consulting .

We're particularly interested in candidates who have worked across both traditional mainframe environments and modern cloud platforms , rather than candidates who have only operated within one technology ecosystem.

Solid candidates may come from large technology consultancies, cloud providers, systems integrators, financial services, government, telecommunications or other organisations where mainframe modernisation and large-scale technology transformation are central to the environment.
