About the Role

We are looking for an experienced Senior Middleware & Application Administrator to join our Platform Operations team in Sydney.

In this role, you will be responsible for the administration, optimisation and continuous improvement of the middleware platforms supporting HPS's mission-critical payment applications. You will ensure the availability, security and performance of our enterprise environments while supporting business-critical services operating 24/7.

Working alongside Infrastructure, Development, Security and Project teams across multiple international locations, you will act as the technical reference for middleware technologies, contribute to platform modernization initiatives and play a key role in maintaining world-class payment services.

Key Responsibilities

Middleware Administration

- Install, configure and administer enterprise middleware platforms including JBoss/WildFly, IBM WebSphere, Apache Tomcat and Apache HTTP Server
- Deploy and maintain Java enterprise applications across Development, Test, UAT and Production environments
- Perform platform upgrades, migrations and lifecycle management
- Maintain middleware configurations and technical documentation
- Execute preventive maintenance and platform health checks





Production Support

- Provide Level 3 support for business-critical production environments
- Troubleshoot and resolve complex middleware and application incidents
- Perform root cause analysis and implement permanent corrective actions
- Participate in Incident, Problem and Change Management processes
- Support production releases and maintenance activities
- Participate in an on-call support rotation
- Ensure platform availability in accordance with Service Level Agreements (SLAs)

Performance & Platform Optimization

- Monitor platform performance using enterprise monitoring solutions
- Analyse JVM performance, memory utilisation and application response times
- Optimise middleware configurations to maximise stability and performance
- Conduct capacity planning and proactively identify operational risks
- Recommend infrastructure improvements to support business growth

Security & Compliance

- Apply middleware patches, upgrades and security fixes
- Implement secure configuration standards and platform hardening
- Monitor security advisories and vulnerability assessments
- Collaborate with Security Operations teams to remediate identified risks
- Support internal and external compliance audits

Automation & Continuous Improvement

- Develop automation scripts to improve operational efficiency
- Contribute to CI/CD initiatives and deployment automation
- Improve monitoring, alerting and operational reporting
- Identify opportunities to simplify operational processes and increase platform reliability

Technical Leadership

- Act as the subject matter expert for enterprise middleware technologies
- Provide technical guidance to Infrastructure, Development and Project teams
- Review solution architectures and infrastructure designs
- Mentor junior engineers and promote knowledge sharing
- Contribute to technical standards, best practices and strategic platform decisions

About You You are an experienced Middleware Administrator who enjoys working within complex enterprise environments supporting highly available platforms.





You combine strong technical expertise with excellent troubleshooting skills and are passionate about delivering secure, stable and high-performing technology solutions.

You are proactive, collaborative and comfortable working in an international environment supporting mission-critical payment systems.

What We're Looking For

Qualifications

- Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology, Engineering or a related discipline
- Equivalent professional experience will also be considered

Experience

- Minimum 5 years' experience administering enterprise middleware platforms
- Strong experience supporting production environments
- Experience with Java application servers
- Strong Linux administration skills
- Experience supporting high-availability enterprise platforms
- Experience within banking, financial services or payment systems is highly desirable
