About the Opportunity
Based in Fremantle and as part of the Patrick Fremantle Terminal management team, reporting to the Terminal Manager, the Engineering Manager is an integral position in the operation of this organisation. Accountabilities and responsibilities in this role are far reaching but defined, ranging from the repairs and maintenance of all key terminal plant, equipment and facilities, to working closely with the National Engineering team on the strategic direction of major assets, are fundamentals of this position.
You will work closely with operational management to ensure engineering solutions support terminal performance, and enable the exceptional levels of service that Patrick demands and is nationally renowned for.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead and develop people, safety and technical programs in the maintenance area, to achieve high levels of asset safety, reliability (and integrity) and to minimise operational losses, in a cost-effective manner.
- Identify and implement engineering Best Practice safety methods, concepts, systems, processes, and lead cultural change, to achieve optimum asset performance levels that meet targets and plans.
- Drive compliance with all safety, environmental and legislative requirement across all maintenance activities.
- Lead, mentor and develop the maintenance workforce in skill and competency enhancement, develop team capability, and succession planning.
- Manage the maintenance of large-scale plant and equipment to maximise asset reliability and availability, and develop and implement Reliability Centred Maintenance (RCM) strategies.
- Lead programs to increase the levels of Planned Maintenance through proactive and preventive practices.
- Drive continuous improvement initiatives to improve asset performance and reduce downtime.
- Optimise maintenance planning and operations through CMMS (Maximo) and data-driven decision making.
- Verify that maintenance work order back logs are managed effectively and are kept at acceptable levels.
- Developing systems and processes to enable vigilance of maintenance expenditure, reliability, safety and plant integrity, with a view to direct the maintenance team on suitable strategy paths.
- Oversee engineering budgets, maintenance expenditure and cost forecasting, and optimise labour and maintenance cost effectiveness with due consideration to asset life cycle and future Terminal development.
- Manage contractor performance, procurement activities and engineering service agreements, in line with business and terminal strategies and asset care requirements.
About your Experience
To be successful in the role, your attention to safety culture, experience in preventive maintenance systems, management and leadership of an engineering department with associated financial acumen, are key requirements. As a proven manager in a heavy industrial work environment, your exceptional management and leadership abilities will ensure your success.
Required Skills and Experience
- Minimum 5 years experience in the heavy engineering environment, managing the maintenance of heavy industrial plant and equipment.
- Tertiary qualifications in Engineering (Rgeistration in CPEng or RPEng registration highly regarded).
- Ability to sustain and add value to a strong safety culture.
- Experience leading, mentoring and developing teams of five or more direct reports in a highly unionised, heavy industrial maintenance environment
- Ability to continuously improve preventive maintenance systems and processes resulting in expected asset reliability and availability and optimal asset life cycle performance.
- Proven capability to control total expenditure for a maintenance department meeting all budgetary constraints,
with the ability to develop accurate maintenance budget projections.
- Strong knowledge of asset reliability, preventative maintenance and engineering best practice.
- Demonstrated project management experience, including the integration of new assets with existing operational assets.
- Knowledge of Contract Management processes.
- Experience with CMMS systems (preferably Maximo), maintenance planning and asset management.
- Strong analytical, problem-solving and report writing skills.
- Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills, including negotiation.
- In addition, you must be eligible to obtain an MSIC (Maritime Security Identification Card).
