Fuse Recruitment is partnering with a Brisbane-based biotechnology organisation to appoint a Senior Research Associate into a hands-on preclinical R&D; workplace supporting translational programs (oncology focus) across cell-based assays, in vivo murine models, and imaging/biodistribution workflows.
This is a practical, execution-focused role suited to someone who thrives in the lab, values high-quality data, and can help uplift consistency, training, and SOP-driven ways of working.
The role
Reporting into the scientific team, you will:
- Execute in vitro experiments including mammalian cell culture and bioengineering workflows (e.g., lentiviral production/transduction, transient transfection, siRNA).
- Run a range of cell-based and molecular assays (e.g., cytotoxicity, radioligand binding, clonogenic assays, cell-cycle analysis, immunofluorescence, Western blot, qPCR, ELISA, flow cytometry, IHC, NGS).
- Support in vivo studies including animal monitoring/welfare, handling, injections, tumour measurement, anaesthesia, surgical prep support, euthanasia/necropsy, perfusion and tissue collection.
- Contribute to biodistribution / imaging studies (gamma counting; PET/SPECT/CT/bioluminescence where applicable).
- Maintain high-integrity documentation (electronic lab notebooks), data summaries, figures, and reporting.
- Help draft/revise SOPs and protocols, and support quality/safety compliance activities.
- Train and mentor junior staff and support day-to-day lab operations (inventory, consumables, equipment upkeep).
Essential:
- Master’s (or higher) in Biology, Molecular Biology, Immunology, Biochemistry, Pharmacology or related.
- 3–5 years hands-on lab experience (industry or academic).
- Strong capability across molecular/cell biology techniques (qPCR, Western, ELISA, flow cytometry, mammalian cell culture).
- Demonstrated in vivo rodent experience (handling, injections, monitoring, tumour work, tissue collection).
- Excellent organisation, attention to detail, and commitment to data integrity.
- Ability to coach/guide others and lift lab execution standards.
Desirable:
- Translational/biomarker experience (especially cancer), SOP/quality-compliant environments, or radiopharmaceutical exposure.
- Familiarity with regulated environments (e.g., GLP-style practices) and/or basic bioinformatics tools.
