Prepare detailed electrical cost estimates for utility-scale solar and BESS projects, from concept through to detailed design stage.
Review tender documentation, drawings, and specifications to identify scope, risks, and estimating requirements.
Develop quantity take-offs for electrical materials, plant, and labour, including PV modules, DC/AC cabling, switchboards, inverters, and BoP infrastructure.
Prepare and submit compliant, competitive tender responses within required timeframes.
Source and evaluate quotes from suppliers and subcontractors to build accurate cost bases.
Prepare project budgets, cost plans, and margin analysis to support tender submissions and delivery handover.
Identify value engineering opportunities to improve project competitiveness and profitability.
Interpret electrical drawings, single line diagrams, and technical specifications to inform estimates, and liaise with design engineers to resolve documentation discrepancies.
Liaise with clients, suppliers, and subcontractors to gather pricing and scope information.
Work closely with project managers, engineers, and the commercial team during handover and post-tender clarifications.
Prepare estimate summaries, cost reports, and presentations for internal review and approval.
Maintain accurate estimating records, pricing databases, and lessons‑learned documentation.
Duties & Responsibilities

Preferred Experience Requirements
- Minimum 3–5 years’ experience in electrical estimating, preferably within renewable energy, solar, or heavy infrastructure construction.
- Demonstrated experience estimating utility‑scale solar and/or BESS projects (highly regarded).
- Strong analytical, numerical, and problem‑solving skills.
- Excellent communication and negotiation skills, with the ability to work effectively with both internal and external stakeholders.
- Sound knowledge of Australian Standards (AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 5033, etc.) and relevant electrical codes.
- Experience with subcontractor and supplier procurement and pricing processes.
- Ability to work independently and manage multiple tenders simultaneously under tight deadlines.
- Flexibility to work outside of normal business hours as needed during tender periods.
Skill Requirements
- Strong understanding of electrical construction methods, materials, and costs for solar and BESS projects.
- Proficiency in estimating software (e.g., Causeway, Buildsoft, or similar).
- Strong computer skills, emphasis on Microsoft Excel, Microsoft Project, and SharePoint.
- Strong technological literacy including AI literacy.
- Ability to read and interpret electrical drawings, schematics, and technical specifications.
- Financial and job cost accounting knowledge.
- Ability to work under pressure and cooperate to achieve maximum efficiency.
- Understanding of construction contracts and the administration of them.
- Project time and cost tracking and analysis – ability to enter large quantities of data of time and cost to analyse against budget.
- Organisation – the ability to understand and assist in the planning of new and existing activities.
- Communication – the ability to communicate clearly, effectively and regularly with team members.
- Positive work ethics and the ability to treat documents with confidentiality.
- Must have excellent attention to detail.
Preferred Licenses / Qualifications
- Degree or trade qualification in Electrical Engineering, Construction Management, Quantity Surveying, or a related field.
- Driver’s Licence.
- Construction White Card (General Construction Induction)
