CNC Machinist - Programmer / Operator (5-Axis Machining - Defence)

We are recruiting for multiple CNC Machinists – Programmer Setters and Operators for our client, a global leader in defence engineering and manufacturing. These roles are suited to candidates with strong machining backgrounds and proven experience working in 5-axis CNC environments.

These are full-time, permanent roles based in Melbourne’s southeast. Both day shift (6:00am – 2:30pm) and afternoon shift (2:00pm – 10:30pm) positions are available.

For Programmer Setter:

- Set up 5-axis CNC machines for complex machining operations
- Program and edit using CADCAM software (Solidworks, SolidCAM)
- Build fixture assemblies and manage tooling libraries
- Oversee machine operations, adjusting toolpaths for compliance
- Inspect in-process and finished products against specifications

For Setter Operator:

- Edit toolpaths using CADCAM software as required
- Set up CNC Machining components per drawings and setup sheets
- Load raw materials and supervise machine execution, adjusting as necessary
- Inspect machined components using precision measuring tools




- Perform daily checks to maintain machine functionality

Skills and Requirements

- Proven experience working with 5-axis, horizontal and vertical CNC machining centres (essential)
- Certificate IV Engineering CNC or relevant experience as a CNC Programmer, Setter, Operator, Machinist, Fitter, Controller etc.
- Experience working with non-ferrous materials, primarily aluminium, plastics and copper.
- Ability to interpret mechanical drawings and use CMM to inspect mechanical components
- Proficiency in CADCAM (preferably SolidWorks, SolidCAM, etc.) for Programmer roles

NOTE: To be eligible for this position you must be an Australian Citizen and be eligible to obtain and maintain an AGSVA clearance – Baseline.
