Transdev Sydney Ferries an entity of Transdev Australasia , operates approximately 175,000 services, transporting more than 15 million people across Sydney Harbour and the Parramatta River each year. About You As our Safety Health Environment and Quality (SHEQ) Manager you will lead the strategic development, implementation and continuous improvement for Transdev Sydney Ferries safety management system. Your expertise in the field will help drive a proactive safety culture that manages WHS and maritime risks and ensure strict regulatory compliance is fostered by our people in our highly unionised maritime environment.
What You’ll Do Strategic System Management: Designing and deploying comprehensive WHS strategies, programs, and standards that align with the Corporate Safety Strategy and maintain crucial management system certifications.
Culture & Collaboration: Fostering a robust safety culture by coaching and mentoring personnel at all levels and ensuring meaningful consultation with operational staff and stakeholders to embed safety practices onboard vessels.
Assurance & Compliance: Providing independent assurance to executive leadership through rigorous internal audit programs,
ensuring all operational and maintenance activities comply with NSW maritime safety accreditations and the International Safety Management (ISM) Code.
Incident Investigation & Prevention: Conducting evidence-based ICAM investigations into safety and environmental incidents to identify systemic root causes, meet regulatory reporting requirements, and implement preventative recommendations.
What You Bring
- Demonstrated experience and ability implementing safety, health, environment and quality in maritime environment and eligibility of the Safety Institute of Australia
- Tertiary qualification in Work Health and Safety or equivalent
- Knowledge and understanding of :
- ISO 45001,9001 and 14001
- NSW Work Health and Safety Act 2011 and Regulations 2025
- Marine Legislation and Regulations
- Transport Passenger Act 1990 and regulations
This role will suit someone with a proactive approach to their work, someone who thrives in contributing to improving the safety and compliance strategies helping to manage our business risks. You will have strong time management and organisational skills complemented by your strong interpersonal and communication skills giving you the capability to consult and facilitate difficult conversations with different levels of staff. More importantly we require someone who has a strong acumen to report writing as you will be required to produce clear written reports and provide recommendations where needed.
