PRO PLASTER SERVICES PTY LTD growing transport company providing road freight, collection and delivery services to customers across Melbourne and surrounding areas. They are seeking an experienced Transport Company Manager to organise, manage and control their day-to-day transport operations and ensure the secure, efficient and timely collection and delivery of goods. The successful candidate will oversee their vehicle fleet, drivers, delivery schedules, customer requirements, fleet maintenance, transport compliance and operational performance.
KEY DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Plan, organise, direct and control the day-to-day operations of PRO PLASTER SERVICES PTY LTD's road transport and goods delivery activities.
- Coordinate the collection, transportation and delivery of goods to ensure customer requirements and delivery timeframes are met.
- Plan daily transport schedules, delivery runs and vehicle movements according to customer bookings, delivery locations, freight volumes and operational priorities.
- Allocate drivers and appropriate vehicles to collection and delivery jobs.
- Manage and coordinate the company's fleet to maximise vehicle utilisation and minimise unnecessary travel, delays and downtime.
- Monitor daily fleet movements and delivery progress using transport management and GPS/fleet tracking systems.
- Adjust routes, schedules and driver allocations in response to urgent deliveries, traffic conditions, vehicle availability and changing customer requirements.
- Supervise and provide operational direction to drivers and transport staff.
- Prepare driver rosters and coordinate daily work assignments.
- Ensure goods are collected, transported and delivered safely, securely and within agreed delivery timeframes.
- Monitor loading and delivery arrangements to ensure vehicles are appropriately allocated according to freight requirements, vehicle capacity and applicable load restrictions.
- Ensure appropriate procedures are followed for handling, securing and transporting goods.
- Liaise with customers regarding bookings, collection times, delivery schedules, delays and other transport requirements.
- Investigate and resolve delayed deliveries, missed collections, damaged goods, customer complaints and other operational issues.
- Monitor driver performance, delivery performance, vehicle utilisation and transport productivity.
- Ensure compliance with Chain of Responsibility (CoR), fatigue management, load restraint, mass and dimension requirements, road transport legislation and workplace health and safety requirements.
- Ensure drivers maintain required licences, work diaries, transport documentation and other compliance records.
- Coordinate vehicle servicing, preventative maintenance, inspections and repairs.
- Monitor vehicle condition and ensure the fleet is maintained in a safe and roadworthy condition.
- Maintain appropriate records relating to vehicles, drivers, deliveries, maintenance, incidents and transport operations.
- Monitor operating expenses including fuel, maintenance, repairs, tolls and other transport costs.
- Assist with preparing and managing operational budgets and controlling transport expenditure.
- Analyse fleet and delivery performance and identify opportunities to improve routes, vehicle utilisation, productivity and operating costs.
- Develop and implement transport procedures to improve delivery efficiency, safety and customer service.
- Recruit, train, supervise and support drivers and transport operations employees as required.
- Conduct staff performance reviews and provide coaching and operational guidance.
- Liaise with customers, suppliers, contractors, repairers and other service providers.
- Prepare operational and performance reports for management.
- Ensure the transport operation maintains a high standard of safety, reliability, efficiency and customer service.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE:
- Diploma, Advanced Diploma, Management or Business Management or a related field.
- At least 2-3 years of relevant experience in road transport, freight delivery, fleet management or transport operations, preferably in a supervisory or management position.
- Demonstrated experience coordinating a commercial vehicle fleet and drivers involved in the collection and delivery of goods.
- Experience planning delivery schedules, routes, driver allocations and vehicle movements.
- Good knowledge of Melbourne metropolitan roads, delivery areas and transport networks.
- Sound knowledge of Chain of Responsibility, fatigue management, load restraint and applicable road transport safety requirements.
- Experience supervising drivers and transport operations staff.
- Strong organisational, planning and problem-solving skills.
- Ability to respond effectively to delivery delays, vehicle breakdowns and changing operational requirements.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
