Best known for its extensive range of fresh produce, the Saturday Fresh Market features more than 100 stalls offering fresh food, baked goods, takeaway meals, coffee, plants, specialty products and homewares. It is a lively and welcoming market where customers come to shop, eat and enjoy the atmosphere.
About the Role
This is a permanent part-time position working 15 paid hours each week:
- Friday: 11.30am to 4pm
- Saturday: 4am to 3pm, including a 30-minute unpaid meal break
Working closely with the Retail Market Supervisor and Retail Market Manager, you will support the coordination of the market team during Friday preparation and Saturday market operations.
This is a hands‑on working Team Leader role. You will lead from within the team, working alongside staff during setup, trading and pack‑down while providing practical direction and helping the Market operate safely and efficiently.
The position requires a reliable early start each Saturday and will suit someone who enjoys active work and values fixed weekly hours.
Key Responsibilities
- Work alongside the team during setup, trading and pack‑down.
- Help coordinate staff duties and provide practical guidance.
- Support safe work practices, site procedures and operational requirements.
- Assist with customer entry, point-of-sale and cash‑handling activities.
- Support safe vehicle,
pedestrian and traffic movements.
- Respond to day‑to‑day operational matters and escalating incidents when required.
- Conduct staff briefings and shift handovers and complete operational checklists and documentation.
- Provide professional customer service and liaise with Stallholders when required.
About You
You will bring:
- Previous team leader, supervisory, retail, event or operational experience.
- A practical and hands‑on leadership style.
- Strong communication and customer service skills.
- Sound judgement and a calm approach in a busy environment.
- Experience with point-of-sale systems and cash handling.
- A strong commitment to workplace health and safety.
- A current Queensland driver licence.
- Availability to work the fixed Friday and Saturday roster.
- Current Fire Warden training, or willingness to complete the required training.
- A current forklift High Risk Work Licence (LF) and First Aid certification would be advantageous but are not essential.
- The role involves extended periods of walking and standing, working in a covered, open‑air market environment and assisting with the secure movement of market equipment.
