Role

Walcom Ngarrwa Secondary College is seeking an outstanding educator to lead the development of whole school numeracy capability through the role of Learning Specialist: Numeracy Coach .

This position plays a critical role in improving student achievement by building the confidence, knowledge and practice of teachers to effectively teach numeracy across all learning areas. The Numeracy Coach will work with individual teachers, professional learning teams and school leaders to embed evidence based numeracy instruction that enables every student to develop the mathematical knowledge,



skills and reasoning required for success in school and beyond.

As workplaces and communities become increasingly data rich and complex, young people require strong mathematical reasoning, problem solving and data literacy skills. The Numeracy Coach will lead and support the implementation of a whole school approach to numeracy that aligns with our vision of developing learners who demonstrate Achievement, Belonging and Curiosity .

The Learning Specialist: Numeracy Coach will contribute to:

Context

As a rapidly growing secondary college, Walcom Ngarrwa Secondary College provides a unique opportunity for instructional leaders to influence practice across the entire school. The Learning Specialist: Numeracy Coach will be a key member of the College's Teaching and Learning Team and will contribute to strategic planning, implementation and evaluation of whole school improvement priorities.

The role combines instructional leadership, coaching, mentoring, professional learning and data-informed improvement, with a specific focus on developing teacher capability and student outcomes in numeracy.

Responsibilities

Whole School Numeracy Leadership

- Lead the development,



implementation and ongoing refinement of the College's whole school numeracy strategy.
- Contribute to the School Improvement Team and Teaching and Learning Team by providing expertise in numeracy improvement and mathematics instructional practice.
- Support the achievement of goals and targets identified in the School Strategic Plan and Annual Implementation Plan.
- Promote numeracy as a cross curricular priority and support all learning areas to embed meaningful numeracy learning opportunities.
- Foster a culture where numeracy achievement is understood as a shared responsibility across the College.

Coaching and Mentoring

- Deliver high quality coaching and mentoring to teachers across all learning areas to strengthen numeracy instruction.
- Implement structured coaching cycles including goal setting, observation, feedback, reflection and review.
- Build teacher confidence and capability in planning for, teaching and assessing numeracy.
- Support teachers to translate student achievement data into targeted classroom improvement strategies.
- Provide reciprocal classroom observations, including pre-observation and post-observation coaching conversations.
- Develop individual and team capacity through mentoring, modelling, collaborative planning and professional dialogue.

Demonstration and Modelled Practice

- Model exemplary classroom practice through demonstration lessons and team teaching.
- Showcase effective numeracy instruction aligned with the College Instructional Model and Victorian Teaching and Learning Model (VTLM 2.0).
- Maintain an open classroom environment where staff can observe high impact teaching practices.
- Support teachers to implement explicit teaching practices that improve student numeracy outcomes.

Professional Learning Leadership

- Design, facilitate and evaluate professional learning focused on evidence based numeracy and mathematics instruction.
