The Opportunity
The Senior Financial Accountant plays a key role in supporting the Group's financial accounting function by ensuring the timely, accurate and compliant delivery of financial reporting, maintaining strong financial controls, and driving continuous process improvement.
Working closely with the finance team and operational stakeholders, this role is responsible for maintaining the integrity of the Group's financial information while partnering with the business to improve financial performance, strengthen financial literacy and identify opportunities to enhance efficiency through process improvements and automation.
About the Role
As a key member of the finance team, your responsibilities will include:
- Preparing accurate and timely monthly financial statements and management reports for inclusion in Board reporting.
- Managing month-end financial accounting activities, including general ledger maintenance, complex journal entries, accruals, prepayments and balance sheet reconciliations.
- Ensuring all financial transactions are processed accurately and within established reporting timeframes.
- Partnering with operational teams to improve financial understanding, support decision-making and identify opportunities to enhance business performance.
- Preparing comprehensive workpapers and reconciliations that meet internal review and external audit requirements.
- Investigating and explaining financial and operational variances against budget and forecast.
- Lead the preparation and coordination of annual budgets, partnering with operational stakeholders to ensure accurate, commercially aligned financial plans.
- Reviewing expenditure to ensure accurate classification, coding and month-end accruals.
- Maintaining the Fixed Asset Register, including asset additions, disposals, depreciation and reconciliation to the General Ledger.
- Reviewing capital expenditure to ensure assets are correctly capitalised in accordance with accounting standards.
- Assisting with the preparation of annual budgets, forecasts and financial planning activities.
- Identifying and implementing opportunities to improve finance processes, strengthen controls and deliver efficiencies through automation and digital solutions.
About You
To be successful in this role, you will possess:
- CA or CPA qualification.
- Demonstrated experience within a large and complex multi-entity organisation.
- Robust technical accounting knowledge and a sound understanding of Australian Accounting Standards.
- Advanced Microsoft Excel skills, including experience working with large and complex datasets and financial models.
- Experience using ERP systems, preferably Microsoft Business Central.
- Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills with strong attention to detail.
- Outstanding communication and stakeholder management skills,
with the ability to build effective working relationships across all levels of the business.
- A proactive mindset with a continuous improvement focus and the ability to influence positive business outcomes.
