Northrop Consulting Engineers About the Role
In this role, you will contribute to the design and delivery of safe, efficient, and compliant structural engineering solutions for a range of building projects, with a particular focus on post-tensioned concrete design.
Working alongside experienced engineers, you will be involved in structural analysis, modelling, documentation, and multidisciplinary coordination from concept through to construction while ensuring compliance with Australian Standards and project requirements.

Task & responsibilities
- Delivering safe, efficient, and compliant structural engineering designs across building projects, with a specialist focus on detailed post-tensioned concrete design.
- Contribute to analysis, modelling, and documentation from concept through to construction, ensuring coordination with architectural and services disciplines.
- Under senior guidance, support project delivery by producing accurate, buildable solutions that meet client, code, and program requirements.
- Perform structural analysis, modelling, and design for building structures, including post-tensioned concrete slabs.
- Prepare accurate engineering calculations, drawings, specifications, and design documentation.
- Develop practical, efficient, and buildable structural solutions.
- Coordinate structural designs with architects, civil engineers,
services engineers, and drafters.
- Ensure designs comply with Australian Standards (AS/NZS), the National Construction Code (NCC), and relevant authority requirements.
- Use structural engineering software such as ETABS, SAP2000, Strand7, SpaceGass, and RAPT to develop and validate engineering solutions.
- Assist with tender and construction documentation and respond to Requests for Information (RFIs).
- Participate in project coordination meetings and provide technical support during construction.
- Identify design risks, resolve engineering issues, and elevate complex matters to senior engineers where required.
- Deliver assigned work within project timeframes, budgets, and quality standards.
Qualification & experience
- Bachelor's degree (or higher) in Civil or Structural Engineering from a recognised tertiary institution.
- Approximately 1–2 years' experience in structural engineering within the building industry.
- Experience in structural analysis, design, and documentation for commercial, residential, or mixed-use projects.
- Knowledge of Australian Standards (AS/NZS), National Construction Code (NCC), and relevant engineering regulations.
- Experience or demonstrated interest in post-tensioned concrete design.
- Experience using structural analysis and modelling software such as ETABS, SAP2000, Strand7, SpaceGass, or similar.
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to work collaboratively within multidisciplinary project teams.
