First Nations Liaison Officer is for 6 hours a week

This role works under the general direction of the Aged Care Volunteer Visitor Scheme (ACVVS) Coordinator with a focus on enhancing culturally appropriate engagement within Residential Aged Care Homes (RACH). The First Nations Liaison Officer (FNLO) will provide additional support for First Nations volunteers and residents, particularly at Shalom Elders Village, a First Nations dedicated Residential Aged Care Home (RACH). The FNLO will assist in building strong connections with Residential Aged Care Homes and Elders through culturally safe practices and ensure the program meets the specific needs of First Nations elders.

Objectives of the position

- Effective and collaborative member of the ACVVS Team

- Relevant data is collected, and reports are prepared on a daily basis

- Connections are built, maintained, and nurtured with community groups, volunteers and stakeholders

- Effective planning, organising and executing supports for First Nations ACVVS Volunteers and Residential Aged Care Homes.

- Support with recruitment, training and retention of First Nations volunteers for the program

- Support project logistics, including project activities, meetings, workshops and events

Role and Responsibilities

- On a daily basis, collect and enter data as required by the Program Coordinator

- Provide support in facilitating community engagement activities Including visiting Residential Aged Care Homes

- Actively work to include Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives in Residential Aged Care Homes





- Provide sound cultural advice to all stakeholders regarding culturally appropriate practice in the Residential Aged Care Homes across the Townsville Local Government area

- Identify and communicate to the Program Coordinator gaps, needs and solutions for increased engagement of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander representatives in Residential Aged Care Homes

- Offer valuable cultural advice to stakeholders, ensuring the delivery of services aligns with culturally appropriate practices

- Assist with administration tasks as requested.

- Support connections with existing Residential Aged Care Homes

- Participate in regular line management meetings with the aim of monitoring performance, providing support and fostering continuous improvement.

- Submit information for monthly board reports and funding reports in accordance with service agreement requirements to ensure targeted progress toward KPIs is attained.

- Use knowledge, judgement and skills acquired through qualifications and/or experience to resolve problems of limited difficulty and seek assistance from senior employees where required.

- Familiarisation and compliance with all organisational policies and procedures.

- Actively contribute to maintaining a positive workplace culture in accordance with our values, vision, mission, and code of conduct.

- Any other duties as reasonably required, and which fall within the scope of this level.

- Actively participate in regular team and supervision meetings as an engaged and collaborative team member.

Education

Relevant Degree in community development, governance, social work,



public health or early education OR Relevant Diploma OR Certificate with relevant experience OR relevant experience.

SELECTION CRITERIA:

SC 1 Established relationships with local and regional stakeholders; and experience in community development

SC 2 Working knowledge of programs, legislation and policies which support culturally appropriate practice in the delivery of an integrated service across Residential Aged Care Homes

SC 3 Strong administration skills with proficiency in MS Office 365; particularly Word, Excel, and Outlook; and accuracy of data entry, including attention to detail, judgement, initiative, confidentiality and sensitivity in the performance of work.

SC 4 Training and experience of the following is desirable: Food Handling Certification, Infection Control training, Transport (Bus) Training and Chemical Handling.

SC 5 Effective time management with the proven ability to establish, plan and prioritise own goals and work objectives effectively, and be flexible to meet program and organisational goals.

SC 6 Well developed verbal, written and interpersonal skills including a comprehensive understanding of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander issues with the proven ability to support and work effectively with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families and community groups.

Mandatory Requirements Current Queensland Class C Drivers Licence, Satisfactory National Police Clearance, and current positive

Working with Children Blue Card.
