RJ Bird Building is an established Class-2 remediation builder trusted by strata management companies across Sydney. Before we quote remediation works, we inspect — and that’s where you come in.

The role

You’re our eyes and ears on site. We book pre-quote inspections at strata buildings across greater Sydney — and you attend, document the reported defects in photos, video, measurements and notes, and talk to the people on site about what they’ve seen. The test of a good package: our estimators can orient themselves at the property as if they were standing there. You’ll think like a builder and give us your full read in your notes — our estimators make the calls. On site, opinions stay in your pocket. Your building knowledge is what tells you where to point the camera, and what questions to ask.

What you’ll do

· Attend pre-booked inspections at strata buildings (we handle all scheduling and access)

· Photograph and video the defects and their surrounds — the detail our estimators need

· Interview the site contact or resident about the issue — when it started, when it happens, what they’ve noticed — and fold it into your notes

· Take measurements and moisture readings; photograph roof spaces via manhole (camera only) and sarking under lifted tiles where the brief calls for it

· Record key observations — location, extent, materials, access — plus your read on what’s going on





· Curate and upload the complete package the same day — organised so an estimator can walk the site through your eyes

What we’re looking for

· Years on site have given you an eye — you see the failed membrane behind the stain, not just the stain

· A problem-solver who follows the inspection brief and reports back accurately — our quotes are built on what you capture

· Comfortable with smartphone apps for photos, video, and uploads

· Driver’s licence and reliable vehicle

· Your own kit: a phone with a valuable camera, laser measure, tape measure, digital level, and pin-type moisture meter

· A drone isn’t required but is valued — drone-equipped inspectors get the jobs involving roofs, gutters, and heights

· ABN, PPE, police check, asbestos awareness, Working at Heights, and $10M public liability — or willing to arrange them before your first booking (all quick to organise; we’ll point you in the right direction)

· A good listener with a sharp pen — you retain what people tell you on site and summarise it into concise, useful notes

The deal

· $170 + GST per inspection — invoice weekly, paid within 7 days, every time. We know contractors live on payment reliability

· Typical job: around 30 minutes on site once you know our process — some as quick as 15, the longest about an hour





· Jobs offered to match your availability and areas — take what suits you, often grouped so you do several nearby in a day

· Consistent, ongoing flow of work from an established builder

Where the work is

Most jobs: North Shore, Eastern Suburbs, and around Ryde. Regular work: Northern Beaches, Inner West, Norwest, Western Sydney, St George. One-offs everywhere in between. If you only want jobs close to home, this isn’t the right fit.

This suits a builder or tradie winding back, a semi-retired supervisor or consultant, or anyone in the industry who wants work that pays for your eye, not your back. If that’s you, apply with a short note on your building background.

Getting started is simple: a phone chat, then a visit to our Eastwood office where we walk through the role, hand over your documents, and train you on our upload portal. After that, your first booking is a real job at the full rate — and if your documentation meets our standard, the bookings keep coming.

Requirements

· ABN

· Driver's licence and reliable vehicle

· Smartphone with a high-quality camera, ladder, laser measure, digital level, moisture meter

· National Police Check — current, or willing to obtain

· Asbestos awareness training — current, or willing to obtain

· Working at Heights ticket — current, or willing to obtain

Ideal Backgrounds (any of)

· Property photography or real estate marketing

· Property inspections or dilapidation reports

· Building, construction, or trades experience

· Any role involving detailed photo and video documentation
