About the Role
We are seeking an experienced and inspiring Head Sonographer to lead our ultrasound services across the Shire region.
Bringing together teams, you will unite our three clinic sites as one team, overseeing ultrasound operations across 6 rooms at Kareena Private Hospital, Sutherland, and Caringbah, you will oversee six ultrasound rooms and help create a consistent, collaborative and patient-focused service across all three clinics.
Reporting directly to the Imaging Manager, you will combine hands-on clinical leadership with team development, workforce planning, quality assurance and day-to-day operational oversight.

Your responsibilities will include
Clinical Leadership & Education
Guide trainees through competency assessments, university requirements and study leave.
Champion ongoing education and maintain standards aligned with ASUM/ASA/ASAR and Lumus guidelines.
Partner with radiologists to keep protocols and worksheets current and effective and Sono Review compliance.
Promote clinical excellence, knowledge sharing and continuous improvement across the region.
People & Workforce Management




Work with the Imaging Manager to coordinate rosters, staffing levels and resource allocation across all three sites.
Partner with the Imaging/Operations Manager in recruitment, onboarding and orientation of new team members.
Coach and develop the team through regular performance conversations, mentoring and upskilling opportunities.
Support accurate management of timecards, leave, overtime, on-call arrangements and TOIL in line with the NSW/ACT EBA.
Compliance & Accreditation
Ensure all sonographers maintain current ASAR accreditation, complete records and compliance with relevant policies.
Manage and investigate patient and referrer feedback through Lumus feedback and incident reporting systems, including QPulse and Medallia.
Conduct audits, monitor quality indicators and uphold high standards of clinical governance and patient care.
Operations & Administration
Coordinate day-to-day ultrasound operations, including billing updates, supplies, workflow and equipment requirements.
Respond promptly to equipment issues to minimise service disruption.
Build productive relationships with vendors, teaching facilities and professional bodies.
Contribute to service planning and improvement initiatives across the Shire region.
Ensure the Sonographer Incentive Scheme (SIS) is used appropriately and in accordance with its intended purpose, administered in line with company policy and compliance with the scheme guidelines for its intended objectives.
About You
An experienced sonographer with current ASAR accreditation and a strong commitment to quality and patient care.
Demonstrated leadership capability, with a passion for coaching, education and team development.
Expected to continue in their technical role in conjunction with their administrative role




A confident communicator who can build trust and bring people together across multiple sites.
Highly organised, adaptable and solutions-focused, with sound judgement in a busy clinical environment.
A collaborative approach and the ability to work effectively with radiologists, managers and multidisciplinary teams.
