Clinical Director (Anaesthetics)
Full Time, Fixed Term – Starting from $351,****** per year dependant on qualifications and experience
About the Role
We are looking for a Clinical Director (Anaesthetics) to provide leadership and governance across our Anaesthetics and ICU service, reporting to the Director of Medical Services – Critical Care Services (DMS-CCS).
This is a 0.2 FTE administrative role sitting within a full time position that also includes clinical practice as a Senior Specialist Anaesthetist (0.4 FTE non-clinical / 0.6 FTE clinical overall).
You will chair multidisciplinary department meetings, lead recruitment and retention of anaesthetic and ICU staff specialists and registrars, oversee clinical governance including monthly M&M; reviews, and hold budget responsibility for the anaesthesia/ICU medical workforce cost centre.
With MBPH's affiliations to Monash and La Trobe Universities, teaching and supervising ANZCA/CICM trainees is a genuine part of the role — giving you real scope to shape both patient care and the next generation of anaesthetists in North West Victoria.
About You
Essential:
Current registration with the Medical Board of Australia as a Specialist Anaesthetist, or the ability to gain registration
Fellowship of the Royal Australian and Recent Zealand College of Anaesthetists (FANZCA), or the ability to gain Fellowship
Demonstrated clinical ability commensurate with a Senior Specialist Anaesthetist in a Victorian public hospital
High-level communication, interpersonal and negotiation skills,



with a demonstrated capacity to work within a multidisciplinary team and coordinate departmental workload and workforce
Evidence of ongoing professional development and active participation in quality assurance activities
A sound understanding of professional and legislative requirements in a healthcare setting
Desirable:
Experience in intensive care/high dependency unit clinical care
Demonstrated experience in an equivalent clinical leadership or research governance role
Postgraduate qualifications suitable to the Clinical Director position
Clinical supervision or teaching experience
Remuneration
Remuneration starts at HM40 as per the Doctors in Training (Victorian Public Health Sector) (AMA Victoria/ASMOF) (Single Interest Employers) Enterprise Agreement.
The Team
Oversight of the Anaesthetics and ICU service is shared between the Clinical Director (Anaesthetics) and the Clinical Director (ICU) — a genuinely collaborative leadership structure, so you're not carrying the department alone.
You'll work closely with the Director of Medical Services – Critical Care Services, the Director of Critical Care, and the Theatre Manager, with strong links into MBPH's broader Critical Care Services Cluster.
