Your opportunity
As our Port Officer, your role will be filled with variety and challenge as you help us operate a safe and secure port 24 hours a day, 7 days a week in alignment with our Port Safety Operating Licence.
This is a shift worker role.
This is a maximum term contract for up to 12 months.
The principal responsibility of the position is to provide a range of services associated with the Port's operations including driving Port Authority launches to transport personnel and/or equipment in Newcastle Harbour and the Hunter River, providing assistance to Pilots embarking and disembarking from ships, and participating in Incident and Oil Spill response activities.
This role is based in Newcastle and here's how your impact will truly count:
● You'll operate Port Authority launches to transport personnel and equipment on Newcastle Harbour.
● You'll support pilot transport activities for vessel movements.
● You'll assist with the maintenance of Port Authority vessels as required.
● You'll test and maintain emergency response equipment.




● You'll participate in emergency response within the port including oil and chemical spills.
● You'll perform administration duties such as logging and reporting of shift activities, data entry and procurement of items.
● You'll implement and continually improve processes and policies.
What you'll bring
● Minimum qualification Coxswain Grade 1 Near Coastal
● Ability to obtain Certificate of Local Knowledge for Newcastle Harbour
● Ability to obtain a comprehensive knowledge of the Port and the operations of Port Authority, including SOP's.
● Ability to effectively use Microsoft Suite, including Excel and Outlook
● Ability to obtain and maintain a First Aid at Work Certificate and MSIC Card
● Current drivers licence
● Willingness to travel between locations in the portfolio
