Financial Counsellor
who is passionate about empowering people, building capability and making a genuine difference in the lives of Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander families across Cape York.
Based in
Cairns
, you'll spend around
t
wo weeks each month travelling to remote Cape York communities
, working alongside local people to help them overcome financial challenges, strengthen financial capability and build brighter futures.

Why You'll Love This Role
Every week is different.
One week you could be helping a family navigate financial hardship, advocating with creditors and developing practical solutions.
The next, you'll be sitting with community members delivering financial capability workshops, mentoring local staff or travelling through some of Australia's most spectacular and culturally rich landscapes.
You'll build trusted relationships,



support community-led outcomes and see first-hand the difference your work makes.
What You'll Be Doing
As our Financial Counsellor, you'll:
Provide confidential financial counselling, advocacy and practical support to individuals and families experiencing financial hardship.
Assist clients with debt management, budgeting, fines, loans, utilities, taxation, child support and other financial matters.
Negotiate with creditors and advocate on behalf of clients to achieve sustainable outcomes.
Deliver financial capability education and community-based workshops.
Mentor Opportunity Hub staff and build capability in financial counselling practices.
Work collaboratively with local communities, stakeholders and service providers to improve access to support.
Contribute to continuous improvement, reporting and quality service delivery.
What We're Looking For
You'll be someone who thrives on building relationships, solving complex problems and working alongside communities to create meaningful outcomes.
You'll bring:
Diploma of Community Services (Financial Counselling)
Membership (or eligibility) with the Financial Counsellors Association of Queensland (FCQ)
Experience delivering financial counselling and community education
Strong communication and relationship-building skills
Experience mentoring or coaching others




Current Driver Licence
Blue Card (or ability to obtain)
National Police Check
Most importantly, you'll have a genuine commitment to working respectfully with Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander communities and supporting community-led empowerment.
