About the Role
This is an exciting opportunity to become part of a dynamic defence and mining technology business that develops practical, innovative solutions for the defence, mining and resources industry.
You'll play a key role in the design, development, testing and implementation of products and technologies that improve safety, productivity and operational performance for our clients.
Reporting to the
Operations Manager
, this position will work closely with our workshop team to deliver design, drafting and engineering support across a range of standard and custom projects.
You will be responsible for assisting the Operations Manager and workshop team with mechanical design and drafting, developing specialised tooling and workshop improvements, supporting product development initiatives, and contributing to automation projects that will shape the future of mining technology.
This role also includes responsibility for managing the small workshop stores area, including stocktakes, inventory control and material management.
While design governance and support will be available from Aquirian's Engineering Team in Perth, this role is intended to operate with a high degree of autonomy and ownership.
We are looking for someone who can identify opportunities, solve problems, and drive projects from concept through to implementation.
Key Responsibilities
Produce 2D & 3D CAD models, engineering drawings and technical documentation.
Provide design and drafting support for standard and custom engineering projects.
Design specialised tooling, workshop equipment and continuous improvement initiatives.
Support concept development, product design, prototyping and testing activities.
Assist with manufacturing, fabrication and design review processes.
Prepare technical reports, specifications and engineering documentation.
Support prototype builds, product validation and field-testing activities.
Assist with inventory management, stock control and workshop stores administration.
Assist with QA/QC on ongoing jobs, safety developments and implementation of SWMS, work instructions.
Contribute to workshop efficiency, safety and continuous improvement projects.
Undertake additional duties and projects as directed by the Operations Manager
About You
You are an energetic, self-motivated and technically capable Mechanical Designer or Engineer who enjoys working in a practical environment.
You will bring a strong foundation in mechanical design, excellent problem-solving abilities and a genuine desire to learn, innovate and contribute as part of a collaborative team.
Essential Requirements
Degree or Diploma in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.
Experience in mechanical design and drafting.
Proficiency in Autodesk Inventor and AutoCAD.
Solid understanding of mechanical design principles and manufacturing processes.
Experience producing engineering drawings and technical documentation.
Strong technical, analytical and problem-solving skills.
Ability to work autonomously and manage competing priorities.
Strong communication and stakeholder engagement skills.
Commitment to safety, quality and continuous improvement.
Positive attitude with a willingness to learn and contribute.
Desirable Experience
Mining, manufacturing or fabrication industry experience.
Finite Element Analysis (FEA) experience.
Product development, prototyping and testing experience.
Workshop, fabrication or practical manufacturing experience.
Inventory management or workshop stores experience.
