Hiring; Payments Architect - Cards - Java - Springboot background
Circa $210k-$220k + super.
Sydney - 3 days in the CBD office.
A very cool recent Platform Architect role for someone whose career has been centred around payments.
You're likely working in the banking or fin-tech space, or maybe you've done that already and are now in a startup?
This role sits at the heart of a high-volume card payments platforms team, owning design decisions and governance across card schemes and real-time rails.
What you'll bring
Strong, hands‐on payments domain experience — end to end, from the customer‐facing side through to backend recording, operations, and manual adjustments.
We need depth in cards OR payments (not both).
Cards — Mastercard or Visa
Payments — BPay or NPP
Bonus: experience with payment rails in HK or Singapore
You bring solid experience across business requirements analysis, system design, and design/code review — with a sharp eye for improving system performance and a genuine problem‐solving mindset.
What you'll do
This is a design and architecture governance role — solution design, vendor architecture diagrams, keeping documentation sharp, and a LOT of communication (fair warning: ~80% meetings).
You won't be coding day to day, but you'll need to stay close enough to the tech to keep your instincts sharp and stay future‐ready to move across different areas as we grow.
Who you are
Someone with strong interpersonal skills who thrives in multi‐cultural teams, builds real strategic relationships with business partners, and is a genuine team player who gets on well with everyone.
What we're NOT looking for
Old‐school PRINCE2/PMBOK, big‐consulting mindsets.
We want architects with a genuine "build over buy" instinct — people who think like engineers, not just governance overlays.
If this sounds like you (or someone in your network), let's talk.
