BDO’s in‑house legal team advises Australia’s national stakeholders on commercial contracts, disputes, regulatory, employment, enterprise risk and governance matters. This full‑time permanent counsel works closely with the General Counsel, Head of Legal and the national legal team to provide practical, commercial legal advice across a wide variety of interesting and challenging matters.
Responsibilities
- Advise on drafting and negotiating commercial contracts.
- Provide clear, commercially focused legal advice and risk‑management strategies.
- Assist with disputes and/or litigation, including briefing external lawyers.
- Support leadership with high‑priority projects and firm initiatives, providing exposure to key stakeholders.
- Keep the business informed on legal developments through targeted updates and training.
- Review and maintain the firm’s legal frameworks, including policies and procedures.
- Contribute to the operational transformation of the legal team by developing legal knowledge resources and streamlining work processes.
Qualifications & Experience
Minimum six years post‑qualification experience with a solid foundation in commercial law.
Bachelor of Laws and admitted to practice in an Australian State or Territory (unrestricted practising certificate required).
Proven ability to provide clear, practical advice that balances legal risk with commercial objectives.
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills; confident in building trust across levels and locations.
Agile and adaptable, able to manage competing priorities across matters of varying size and complexity.
Highly regarded but not essential: experience in employment law, litigation and regulatory matters (e.g. ASIC investigations); prior in‑house experience not essential.
