One of our federal Government clients is seeking to engage Lead SAP Business Objects Data Engineer for Canberra, Brisbane and Melbourne locations

Please note Candidate must have Baseline security clearance

- Initial contract duration- 12 months
- Extension term details - 24 months
- Experience level - Lead - EL1 equivalent

Job details

1. Data Engineers prepare raw data for analytical or operational uses. They make data accessible so that it can be used for optimisation, delivery of services and enhanced analytics solutions.
2. The Senior Data Visualisation Lead is responsible for leading the design, development and delivery of high-quality data visualisation, reporting and business intelligence solutions that support business and technical requirements. The role provides technical leadership to resolve complex issues, translate data into meaningful insights, and ensure visualisation solutions are fit for purpose, accessible, secure and aligned with agreed standards.
3. Provide specialist expertise in SAP BusinessObjects, Power BI and related reporting platforms to guide the re-development (migration), modernisation and continuous improvement of visualisation content and reporting assets.
4. Develop solution designs, reporting models, dashboards and visualisation components from agreed specifications, ensuring outputs are reliable, maintainable and developed in accordance with security, governance and delivery standards.
5. Work under limited direction, exercising initiative and sound judgement to interpret requirements, apply practices and procedures, and provide advice on data visualisation approaches, risks and options.
6. Manage and organise work in the context of competing priorities, contribute to planning and business improvement activities, and support capability uplift through guidance, knowledge sharing and quality review of visualisation deliverables.

Key duties and responsibilities

1. Perform analysis, design, development, testing, deployment, and maintenance of data and reporting solutions.
2. Develop, maintain, and optimise SAP BusinessObjects (BOBJ) Universes, Web Intelligence (WebI) reports, dashboards, and reporting frameworks.
3. Design, develop, and maintain data engineering solutions with a visualisation component.
4. Manage releases, production deployments, and post-implementation support activities.
5. Develop and implement best practices, standards, and frameworks to improve data availability, performance, security, and governance.
6. Collaborate with business stakeholders, project teams, and technical specialists to deliver successful outcomes.
7. Produce clear technical documentation, reports, specifications, and solution designs for both technical and non-technical audiences.
8. Perform peer reviews, quality assurance activities, and testing reviews to ensure delivery standards are met.
9. Resolve complex issues, provide technical leadership, and recommend innovative solutions and process improvements.




10. Mentor and coach team members, sharing knowledge and promoting continuous capability development.

Essential criteria

- 1.Business intelligence: Level 4 (SFIA)
- Supports business intelligence needs of specific management or governance processes or operational areas. Investigates the need for business intelligence reporting and analysis where there is some complexity and ambiguity. Selects and applies non-standard business intelligence tools and techniques to provide insights and aid decision-making. Selects, acquires and integrates data for analysis. Identifies opportunities to digitise and streamline operational data handling and optimise business intelligence capabilities.
- 2.Data engineering: Level 6 (SFIA)
- Leads the selection and development of data engineering methods, tools and techniques. Develops organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for the development and secure operation of data services and products. Ensures adherence to technical strategies and architectures. Plans and leads data engineering activities for strategic, large and complex programmes.
- 3.Data management: Level 6 (SFIA)
- Derives an overall strategy of master data management that supports the development and secure operation of information and digital services. Develops organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for data management, aligned with ethical principles. Plans, establishes and manages processes for regular and consistent access to external information from multiple sources and for independent validation of that information.
- 4.Data modelling and design: Level 5 (SFIA)
- Sets standards for data modelling and design tools and techniques, advises on their application and ensures compliance. Manages the investigation of enterprise data requirements based upon a detailed understanding of information requirements. Coordinates the application of analysis, design and modelling techniques to establish, modify or maintain data structures and their associated components. Manages the iteration, review and maintenance of data requirements and data models.
- 5.Data visualisation: Level 5 (SFIA)
- Leads exploration of current approaches for data visualisation. Establishes the purpose and parameters of the data visualisation. Provides overall control to ensure the appropriate use of data visualisation tools and techniques. Formats and communicates results using textual, numeric, graphical and other visualisation methods appropriate to the target audience. Advises on the appropriate use of data visualisation for different purposes and contexts to satisfy requirements.



Develops plans showing how the identified user needs will be met.
- 6.Database design: Level 5 (SFIA)
- Provides specialist expertise in the design characteristics of database management systems or data warehouse products/services. Provides expert guidance in the selection, provision and use of database and data warehouse architectures, software and facilities. Ensures that physical database design policy supports transactional data requirements for performance and availability. Ensures that data warehouse design policy supports demands for business intelligence and data analytics.
- 7.Information management: Level 6 (SFIA)
- Leads and plans activities to communicate and implement information management strategies and policies. Develops organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for information and records management. Ensures that the information required to support the organisation is defined, and devises information and records management processes. Identifies the impact of statutory, internal or external regulations on the organisation's use of information and develops strategies for compliance. Coordinates internal and externally sourced information resources to meet specific business objectives.
- 8.Measurement: Level 5 (SFIA)
- Establishes measurement objectives and the scope of measurement for functions, teams and projects. Plans and implements improvements to measurement capability. Provides advice and guidance for effective use of measures and measurement. Selects measures appropriate to the context and organisational objectives. Reviews data collection and storage mechanisms to support measurement. Contributes to organisational policies, standards, and guidelines for measurement.
- 9.Quality assurance: Level 5 (SFIA)
- Plans, organises and conducts formal reviews and assessments of complex domains areas, cross-functional areas, and across the supply chain. Evaluates, appraises and identifies non-compliances with organisational standards and determines the underlying reasons for non-compliance. Prepares and reports on assessment findings and associated risks. Ensures that appropriate owners for corrective actions are identified. Identifies opportunities to improve organisational control mechanisms. Oversees the assurance activities of others, providing advice and expertise to support assurance activity.
- 10.Storage management: Level 5 (SFIA)
- Develops standards and guidelines for implementing data protection and disaster recovery functionality for all business applications and business data. Provides expert advice and guidance to implement and improve storage management. Manages storage and backup systems to provide agreed service levels. Creates, improves and supports storage management services with optimal utilisation of storage resources, ensuring security, availability and integrity of data.
