Site Work, Health, and Safety Officer
The Site WHS Officer plays an important role in supporting the implementation and maintenance of health, safety, and wellbeing practices across site operations.
The position is responsible for maintaining WHS systems and documentation, coordinating safety activities, supporting compliance requirements, and ensuring that WHS processes are effectively followed across the site.
Working closely with site leadership, employees, contractors, and other stakeholders, the Site WHS Officer supports risk assessments, workplace inspections, incident reporting and investigations, corrective actions, WHS training and inductions, emergency preparedness, and return-to-work processes.
The role also maintains key WHS systems and records, including chemical management, contractor compliance, PPE, training and competency records, and emergency documentation.
The Site WHS Officer contributes to a safe and compliant workplace by providing practical WHS support, monitoring safety requirements, maintaining accurate records, and assisting with continuous improvement initiatives.
The role requires a proactive and organised approach, with the ability to work collaboratively with site teams while ensuring WHS standards and legislative requirements are consistently maintained.

Key Responsibilities:
1. WHS Systems, Documentation & Compliance
Maintain site WHS systems, procedures, and documentation
Ensure WHS records, registers, and documentation are accurate, current, and well maintained
Manage the ChemAlert (chemical register) system to ensure all hazardous substances are current and placarding and manifests are up to date
Support contractor WHS compliance by ensuring the contractor management system is maintained and current
Manage and oversee site PPE requirements
2. Risk Management & Assurance
Facilitate and ensure completion of site risk assessments in accordance with the schedule
Coordinate, and where required conduct, regular workplace inspections and internal WHS audits
Monitor and track corrective actions within the incident reporting system to ensure timely closure
3. Incident Management & Return to Work
Ensure all site incidents are reported, investigated, and that appropriate corrective actions are implemented
Support incident owners in conducting root cause analysis and identifying corrective and preventive actions
Act as the site Return to Work (RTW) Coordinator
4. Training, Induction & Competency
Coordinate and ensure delivery of required WHS training for all site personnel
Coordinate WHS inductions for employees, contractors, and visitors
Maintain and track mandatory training and competency records
Provide WHS technical advice and support to site teams as required
5. Emergency Management
Ensure site emergency procedures are current, clearly documented, and effectively communicated
Maintain and update site emergency management plans and associated documentation
Coordinate and facilitate emergency drills (e.g. evacuations)
Ensure emergency equipment is regularly inspected, maintained, and readily accessible
6. WHS Governance, Committees & Performance
Support the WHS Committee by ensuring meeting actions are documented, monitored, and closed out
Monitor WHS performance, including KPI tracking and reporting, to support continuous improvement
Coordinate regular reporting on WHS performance
Key Responsibilities – Organisation-Wide WHS
Manage the organisation-wide incident reporting system, including training of recent managers in its use
Oversee and maintain the ChemAlert system across the organisation
Key Requirements:
Practical understanding of WHS legislation, regulations, and workplace safety requirements.
Experience supporting risk assessments, workplace inspections, incident reporting, investigations, and corrective actions.
Experience maintaining WHS documentation, registers, records, and compliance systems.
Good understanding of hazardous substances and chemical management; experience with ChemAlert or similar systems is advantageous.
Experience coordinating WHS inductions, training, emergency drills, and PPE requirements.
Strong administrative and organisational skills, with good attention to detail and the ability to maintain accurate records.
Good communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to work effectively with employees, contractors, supervisors, and site management.
Proactive and practical approach to identifying and addressing workplace safety issues.
Current Australian Driver's Licence is essential, as the role may require travel to other sites.
Ability and willingness to work onsite at Laverton and travel to other company locations when required.
Qualification:
Relevant WHS / Occupational Health & Safety qualification or certification is desirable but not essential, provided the candidate has relevant practical experience.
