Profectus is seeking expressions of interest from experienced engineers to build, administer, and provide senior escalation support for secure Windows and Linux platforms in virtualised environments across Australian Government clients.
You will work as part of a small, high-trust engineering team sustaining production systems and their supporting development environments, while contributing to ongoing feature development, automation, and configuration control.
The scope is deliberately broad.
We are equally interested in candidates from systems administration, network engineering, and cloud or virtualisation infrastructure backgrounds.
If you have designed and built environments and want to stay close to the technology, much of the work will be familiar: configuration baselines, automated builds, monitoring, and platform and network troubleshooting, delivered inside a governed and secure environment.Key ResponsibilitiesAct as a senior escalation point for the diagnosis and resolution of complex platform and network incidents within agreed service levelsReplicate reported faults and develop, test, and verify resolutionsPerform system and network monitoring, and assess configuration compliance across the environmentWrite and maintain scripts and automation to support system builds, application installation, configuration, and customisationSupport system builds, updates, upgrades, and the release of additional features and functionalitySupport the configuration and maintenance of network devices within the environmentAdminister and maintain support and development environmentsBaseline and maintain system configuration control,



and document environment and network design changesDevelop and maintain standard operating procedures, build and load instructions, and other technical documentationContribute to training material development and transfer knowledge to support personnelProvide surge support for onsite activities as requiredProvide technical advice that accounts for broader business and operational requirementsRequired ExperienceDemonstrated system administration and customisation experience across both Linux and Windows servers and applicationsDemonstrated scripting and automation capability using Python, PowerShell, or UNIX shells, applied to installation, configuration, and repeatable build processesExperience working within virtualised or private cloud infrastructureWorking knowledge of network fundamentals, including routing, switching, firewalls, and the configuration of network devicesSound fault-finding and diagnostic skills on issues escalated beyond frontline support, including working through incident management systems and toolsetsExperience developing and maintaining SOPs, build and load instructions,



and technical documentationExperience applying DevOps methodologies within a delivery teamAbility to operate effectively both independently and as part of a collaborative engineering teamStrong written communication skills and the ability to engage technical and non-technical stakeholdersA growth mindset and willingness to build capability across unfamiliar technologiesSoftware development experience on Linux and/or Windows platformsInfrastructure as code and configuration management using tooling such as Ansible, Git, and comparable platformsExperience with OpenStack, or with other virtualisation and private cloud platformsExperience designing, architecting, or migrating infrastructure, network, or cloud environmentsExperience with bespoke Windows and Linux standard operating environments (SOE)Network, virtualisation, or cloud certificationsExperience with Jira or comparable incident and work management toolsetsITIL v4 experience or certificationUnderstanding of systems engineering processes and the capability lifecycleExperience supporting systems operating in distributed, remote, or field-based environmentsExperience working within an agile delivery frameworkRelevant tertiary qualifications or industry certifications in a related disciplineSecurity Clearance RequirementsMust be an Australian CitizenMust hold a current AGSVA NV2 Security ClearanceWorking ArrangementsOnsite in Canberra (ACT)No adaptable, remote working or hybrid arrangements possibleWhy ProfectusProfectus partners with the Australian Government to deliver trusted, secure ICT capability in highly governed environments.
