About the role
SMP Engineering is seeking a skilled and experienced
C1 Crane Operator
to join our team.
This is a
2/1 FIFO (Fly-In, Fly-Out) position
based in
Regional WA
, supporting our mining, resources and energy operations.
As a C1 Crane Operator, you will be responsible for the safe and efficient operation of cranes across various mining and construction sites, playing a critical role in ensuring project timelines are met whilst maintaining the highest safety standards.
This position offers longevity (>12 months) and security, making it ideal for experienced operators seeking varied project opportunities.
Key responsibilities
Operate and manoeuvre cranes safely and efficiently in accordance with all relevant legislation, regulations and company policies
Conduct pre-operational inspections and maintenance checks on crane equipment to ensure protected working order
Communicate effectively with ground personnel, riggers and other team members using appropriate hand signals and radio communication
Load, unload and position heavy materials and equipment at designated locations on site
Maintain accurate logs and records of crane operations and any incidents or near-misses
Comply with all health, safety and environmental requirements, including participation in toolbox meetings and safety briefings
Work collaboratively with site supervisors and project managers to meet project objectives and deadlines
Contribute to a positive safety culture and report hazards or unsafe conditions immediately
What we're looking for
Current and valid C1 Crane Operator High Risk Work licence
Proven experience operating cranes in mining, resources or energy sector environments
Strong understanding of load calculations, rigging principles and crane safety protocols




Excellent communication skills with the ability to work effectively in teams and follow site-specific instructions
Demonstrated commitment to health, safety and environmental compliance
Physical fitness and ability to work at heights and in challenging weather conditions
Reliability and flexibility with FIFO roster arrangements (2 weeks on, 1 week off)
Previous experience in remote mining operations is highly desirable
Ability to pass a VOC.
