Finance Officer - Accounts Payable | Local GovernmentThe OpportunityA Local Government organisation is seeking a detail-oriented Finance Officer - Accounts Payable to support the efficient delivery of financial operations.This role is responsible for the accurate and timely processing of supplier invoices, payments, and financial transactions while maintaining strong relationships with internal stakeholders and external suppliers.Based in Cairns, you will also have the prospect to travel to the community periodically, contributing to a broader understanding of Council operations and service delivery.What's On Offer$70,000 base salary + superannuationFull-time Local Government positionMonday to Friday - ***** hours per weekStandard hours: 8:00am - 4:15pm (1-hour lunch break)Flexible working arrangements available5 weeks annual leave15 days personal leaveLong Service Leave (13 weeks after 10 years)Stable role with career development opportunitiesAbout the RoleYou will support the finance team by ensuring all accounts payable processes are completed accurately and efficiently.Key responsibilities include:Processing supplier invoices,
credit notes and payment requestsConducting weekly and monthly payment runsMaintaining creditor records and ensuring complianceReconciling supplier statements and resolving discrepanciesProcessing staff reimbursements and corporate card transactionsSupporting month-end processes including accruals and reconciliationsMaintaining accurate financial records and supporting audit requirementsAssisting across broader finance functions when requiredProviding high-level customer service to suppliers and internal stakeholdersAbout YouYou are a reliable and detail-focused finance professional with strong accounts payable experience and the ability to work both independently and within a team.You will bring:Certificate III in Bookkeeping, Accounting or similarMinimum 3 years' experience in accounts payable or finance administrationHigh attention to detail and strong numeracy skillsExperience using financial systems and Microsoft OfficeAbility to meet deadlines and manage competing prioritiesStrong communication and stakeholder engagement skillsUnderstanding of confidentiality and financial complianceDesirable:Local Government finance experienceExperience with Synergy or similar accounting systemsCurrent Driver's Licence
