Remington Steel is seeking an experienced Estimator to join our team on a full-time basis at our facility in Derrimut, VIC.
This is a pivotal role within our procurement and operations function, where you will be responsible for analysing project specifications, calculating material costs, and providing accurate quotations that drive our competitive positioning in the steel and distribution sector.
As an Estimator, you will play a crucial role in supporting our sales team, ensuring profitability, and maintaining strong relationships with our clients through precision and reliability in all estimating activities.What you'll be doingAnalysing project drawings, specifications, and technical documentation to determine material requirements and project scopeCalculating material costs, and overhead allocations to produce accurate and competitive quotationsLiaising with suppliers and internal teams to source pricing information and confirm material availabilityPreparing detailed estimates and proposals for presentation to clients, including breakdowns of costs and timelinesReviewing and validating estimates against actual project outcomes to improve future accuracy and forecastingMaintaining comprehensive records of estimates, pricing databases, and historical project dataCollaborating with the sales, production, and logistics teams to ensure feasibility and profitability of quoted projectsIdentifying opportunities to optimise costs, streamline processes, and enhance value propositions for clientsWhat we're looking forProven experience as an Estimator within the steel distribution or construction industries (minimum 3-5 years)Solid knowledge of steel products, specifications, and manufacturing processesProficiency in estimating software and Microsoft Office suite,
particularly Excel for cost modelling and analysisExcellent mathematical and analytical skills with meticulous attention to detailAbility to interpret technical drawings, blueprints, and engineering specifications accuratelyStrong communication and negotiation skills to work effectively with suppliers, clients, and internal stakeholdersSound understanding of supply chain logistics, freight costs, and inventory management principlesProven ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet tight deadlinesKnowledge of relevant industry standards and compliance requirementsPreferred: Experience with procurement systems and inventory management softwarePreferred: Familiarity with costing methodologies and project management principlesWhat we offerRemington Steel is committed to providing a supportive and rewarding work environment.
