About the Company
Our client is a leading distributor of industrial products: bearings, power transmission, gearboxes, electric motors, pneumatics, hydraulics, belts and more.
If it moves, they're interested in supplying it.
The business is part of a global, NYSE-listed group with over 100 years in industrial distribution and billions in annual revenue, giving you the stability and resources of a true multinational.
The depth of experience here is rare.
The leadership team has decades in the industry, including an operations manager with 45 years of service, and manufacturing partners who are happy to assist with training and technical support.
For someone who wants to learn and grow, the knowledge around you is a huge asset.
Established in Australia for over a decade, they operate 25 service centres nationally, including four WA branches with Perth as the state head office, supported by a dedicated distribution centre.
Partnerships with world-leading manufacturers such as SKF and Schaeffler mean you can offer premium product backed by genuine service capability.
They hold significant stock locally in Perth,
supported by a 3PL operation, so you can deliver when customers need it most.
The branch culture is genuinely easygoing and supportive.
They're not looking for someone to grind through unrealistic KPIs; they want someone who cares about what they do and shows real interest.
An opportunity now exists for a BDM to join the Perth branch, supported by the branch manager, internal sales team and warehouse staff.
The Impact You'll Make
This is a role where careers accelerate.
The breadth of the product range exposes you to a huge cross-section of the WA industrial market, and with so much experience around you to draw on, the right person will grow fast.
You'll take ownership of a portfolio of around 100 accounts, a mix of actively trading and dormant customers, with the freedom to shape the balance between developing existing relationships and hunting current business.
The onboarding is realistic and warm.
In the early days, your focus will be looking after and developing the accounts already in place while you build your product knowledge and market presence.
Roughly 40 percent of the portfolio is currently dormant, which is a genuine win-win: every dollar you bring back on board counts straight towards your monthly target.
The proven playbook here is specialisation.
Pick a product area, become the expert customers rely on, then cross-sell the wider range once you're in the door.
Gearboxes and power transmission is the standout opportunity right now given the skill shortage across WA.
Your customers include the engineering workshops that support WA's largest miners,
along with food and beverage producers and manufacturers.
Many of these workshops are huge multi-division operations where one customer can hold 50 or more buying contacts across project managers and engineering leads.
You'll be armed with an extensive CRM full of established contacts, and many of these customers already trade with the branch, making warm introductions straightforward.
The role is based at the Perth branch and reports to the Branch Manager, who spent years on the road as a BDM himself before stepping into leadership, so you'll be managed and mentored by someone who genuinely understands external sales.
The career path is flexible and real.
This business has created roles around the right people before, with pathways into product specialist, contracts management and branch management positions.
Where you take it is up to you.
The Experience You'll Bring
Technical aptitude and a genuine interest in industrial products is essential.
Experience selling bearings, power transmission, industrial consumables, MRO or engineering products is ideal but not required.
Alternatively, you might be an internal sales or branch person, or come from a trade or workshop background, ready to step up into a dedicated business development role.
This business is genuinely open to backing the right attitude over the perfect CV.
You're self-motivated and take responsibility for your own learning, choosing a product niche and building your expertise with the extensive internal and supplier resources available.
Culturally, you're easy to get along with, you show some life and interest in what you're selling, and you bring a genuine care factor to your customers and your team.
On offer is a competitive base salary, fully maintained company vehicle, monthly and annual incentive schemes, and a new business development scheme rewarding you with a share of GP on newly identified business.
